My tank sounds like Niagara Falls

Well...I turned the pump on tonight (Hygger HG-915) on my tank (Aqueon 120 RR, with MaxFlow drains) and there is a rushing noise like Niagara Falls. I have changed the pump down to F 035. The sump is a Trigger Ruby 36, so I extended the fittings into the filter socks with PVC, so they are below the waterline, but the durso style overflows are sending a lot of air down the drain. I am not 100% sure I have the durso at the right height. Some noise is coming from the weirs and the water falling into the sump.

Suggestions
 
Put a cap on the stand pipe with a hole drilled in the cap...make sure the stand pipe is elbowed with the water lever about half way up the 90 leaving room to vent air. You don’t need to glue the cap. I’d dry fit it.

In addition to this, I use a "T" fitting on the sump end with the leg of the T open and just above the surface of the sump. This allows the air to escape before it enters the sump. That will both quiet it down and reduce bubbles.

Dursos can NOT run high flow. You may have to turn down the flow.

And this. The typical "megaflow" is made from 1" PVC. The MAX you can put through it is about 350gph and even then it will likely "flush" and be very noisy. A more realistic flow rate is 250-300gph.
 
if you want dead quiet and high flow check out “herbie” or “bean” overflows. The bean is a herbie plus one extra emergency overflow. I’m running about 1000gph through a 1 inch drain and it’s dead silent.

I have read about the "herbie" and "bean" overflows. My issue is a) the tank is a Aqueon 120RR with two overflow towers. Each tower has two holes drilled in the bottom of the tank. I have two returns coming from the pump. So that leaves me two "drains". I could put one drain as the full herbie type drain and the other as an emergency. That could mean one end of the tank would have all of the drain flow.

Other suggestions on how to use what I have?

I have a T in the pvc pipe which feeds a single pipe into a 1-1/4" flexible tube into the sump. It is about 2" into the water. I intend to put a valve on the pipe coming off the T to the sump, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
Extremely quiet. Just have to adjust the overflows to eliminate air bubbles by using the ball valves. If I had the third valve installed, I would be able to keep the two existing valves wide open and only adjust the third.
Ultimate flexibility. If I want to concentrate the overflow to come more from 1 end of the tank than the other I can do so.
I use a similar solution for the return flow from the sump. I run one line from the pump into a UV sterilizer. The outflow from the sterilizer is then fed into a PVC T which branches to the two return pipes. I have the valves on the returns wide open, but I could alter these setting if I want to concentrate the return to one end or the other.

Both setups use DC variable speed pumps.

I'm sitting 3 feet away from the tank and can barely hear it. I have a 90 gallon tank (only 1 overflow) with a similar setup. It's 6 feet away, can barely hear it. The hum from a very small and quiet air pump feeding a 5 gallon bucket for QT for raising African cichlid fry drowns out any sound from the two aquariums.

Are your overflow drains the stock Aqueon MaxFlow durso style drains?
My drains go through gate valves to the sump (a few inches below surface of sump).

Yes, I'm using the Aqueon drains that came with the tank. I'm using ball valves, each are about 50 % open presently. One of the drains is a fraction of an inch lower in the overflow compartment and I found that by adjusting each overflow independently I could more easily purge the air flow/noise in the pipes before they hit the T to the sump. I intend to add a 1-1/2 inch gate valve after the T just before the sump. This will give me better micro adjustment ability, even though the flow is adjusted well with the two ball valves now. At that point, I'll experiment with setting the two ball valves wide open. I like the flexibility of being able to shut down either overflow without having to shut down the entire system.

The DC return pump is rated at 1900gph, but it is dialed down some. I'm guessing I'm probably running around 1000gph.
