It falls to 78 during the night. I put a fan on it today. should I worry that it was a little high?

How many gallons of water volume and how many watts is your heater.
Do you have a temperature controller?
What do you have your temperature set to maintain?
80d isn't going to kill anything. The question is why is your temp falling below set point (if it is) and why is it going up a full 2 degrees before the cooling kicks in.

I added a algee reactor with led lights to my sump. I think the heat off the lights is causing it. Imovedit father away from the tank last night. That seemed to help. My heater is a 300 watt. I unpluged it to make sure it was not doing it.
