This is in no way a bashing thread about this pump. But I do know that Ecotech monitors forums so they might take this into consideration.

I am in market for a new pump and had my heart set on new Vectra pump.
I have become a new fan of Ecotech after using their MP40QD, thanks to Rev that I won in a raffle.

I was disappointed to see it priced at 349 dollars. What was more disappointing was all the features the pump has that I will never use.

Features that are designed for closed loop systems.

That got me thinking that maybe Ecotech can design a dc pump for users that don't have a closed loop. Maybe it will cut down on the cost and I will still be able to get reliability that I expect out of Ecotech.

Then maybe they could offer the pump at 200 dollars. A simple dc return pump.

We don't have many choices in the dc pump market when it comes to reliability.

So who else agrees that a simple dc return pump from Ecotech around 200 would be awesome.

I later thought that price for 2000 gph return pump is around 349 dollars. All the features are just extras and not offering them won't help in reducing cost. This could also be the reason.

agreed , those would be used for closed loop overpriced return pump

There are features designed for the closed loop and those designed for a return pump. I'm sure Ecotech has no interest in dumbing down the product because then its just another DC pump.

It makes no sense to build a innovative new product, provide excellent customer service, stand behind the pump for warranty purposes, and then turn around and sell it for the same price as those companies that provide no customer service, and no warranty. Ultimately its up to us as reefers to determine what type of risks we take with the quality of equipment we use as the lifeline for our aquarium.

^^^ I kinda agree with you. It was more of a wish post.

Just having all those features on a return pump seems like a waste when I will not be ever using them.

Maybe in future if I have a closed loop.

Well I just got one, not set up yet but will soon. I bit the bullet because I have gone through 3 Waveline DC pumps, 2 have failed within the first year of its warranty, the 3rd has started giving me problems, its no longer under warranty and I no longer trust it. I do not use a closed loop system, so its going to used it as a return pump only. I have 2 MP40's that are out of warranty and ecotech still stands behind them. I paid up for this pump because I believe the quality will be there and the company support speaks for its self.

I'll be waiting for any and all reviews...looking to replace my mag 18 to hopefully reduce heat in the tank. And one of my LFS's has an M1 in stock.

I, on the other hand, would purchase just another basic pump from the manufacturer I like (fan boy mentality) and the color schemes they have (Royal Exclusiv).

look at the colored pvc pipes BRS sells.

I use a lot of Ecotech products and have had many good experiences, the few issues I have had were resolved quickly and easily from customer support. When it comes to the features on these pumps obviously every pump doesn't need them because the majority will be used just for fixed speed return pumps. But when you look at how these features are controlled there is no reason to not include them. Its just software, and from appearance of the features it looks very similar to the features on their MP pumps. They already had someone program the features so it doesn't really cost anything to download the software onto the pumps memory. The way I see it is, its a $339 pump with $10 of software. I just got my system setup with this pump and it is as quiet as advertised, much quieter than the waveline series, and of the 2 waveline pumps I have used they both died in about a year and didn't perform as advertised. So the only real competitors in my opinion are Vertex, Royal Exclusive and Abyss. All of them are more expensive and don't have as many features.

If you want a high quality simple return pump just buy a Ehiem. With Ecotech you pay for the features. They never have been a company that offers simple, cheap, quality products. They sell complex, expensive, quality products.

Seems like a luxury item to me. I love my mp10's and they are worth every penny but I'm sure the jabaos would get the job done just the same. I'd love to have a vectra too sure, but ima Honda guy not a BMW guy becuase that's what I can afford lol.
