I got really lucky and recently got these three new Crocea. My Maxima I have had for a long time. These guys are small, only 1.5 inches, but I am confident in my ability to keep them well. For me, 1 inch Crocea are large enough. Maxima must be at lest 1.5 inches and other species about 2+ inches. Some of the most beautiful Crocea I had in the past I got as 1 inch-ers.

Croceas is the smaller of the giant clams, reaching 6 inches. He has 3 of this type. Mandarin is a beautiful small peaceful fish with finicky eating habits which often leads to starvation in home aquariums. I have not known a clam to be called mandarin. I learn new things everyday.

You are my clam and anemone guru. Thanks for your posts, pics and info.

I got my Crocea from ORA. Not quite to par with Jake Adams clams but my three are best I have seen for many years. I am unfortunately live I. Corpus Christi and thus not able to cheri the most beautiful clams that come into LA, Houston NewYork or Florida.

You do take great care of them however.

i live in los angeles. in the 2-3 years that i’ve been back in the hobby, i’ve only really see the typical blue maximas, and never a crocea as fancy as a mandarin.

i’m either going to the wrong LFS or any mandarins that hit the stores get scooped up right away. ;Hilarious

Some of the LFS have spotter that go through the wholesalers and cheri picks stuff for them. They are the ones that seem to have nice stuff all the time and are a little or a lot more expensive.

hehe ... time to see if i have established a solid relationship with my fav LFS. :D

Picture just now right before the light turn out. The clams retracted a little because of the shadows from the phone camera. I guess I can’t have everything.
mall 4 clams grew a lot about 3-4 mm since August. The Maxima almost 2.5 inches now and the Crocea are almost 2.0 inches.
I also got a few Black Mangrove seed from the beach the last tropical hurricane that hit LA. These seeds started to sprout and grow. Kinda neat.

They are doing wonderful. I love growing plants. I never thought of mangroves having seeds. How interesting is that!
