my valentines day present

I got mine from LFS. It had 30-40 palys. I got it for $35 for the whole thing I think.
It was doing great, growing well.
I tried fragging 2-3 paly that was easy to frag, but ended up chotting the whole thing into 3-5 paly frags. I guess it didnt like being chopped all at once.
next day when I looked into the tank, 10 plugs with nothing on it but glue with slime.
I think the reason behind it is

1. Wild colony is especially sensitive to tank environment
2. Chopping up the thing was a bad idea.

you just had to go and chop it up, lol you got it for a sweet deal tho..

ctxmonitor that is a sweet colony of vdm how long have you had that. were doing a local group buy of high end zoas and were getting some vdm and i cant wait :bigsmile:

when i got it..it had a couple zoa pox,just 2 white dots...i cleaned it and dip then it went away....then after that it just grew like so fast keeps popping babies and even made frag so i can have a second mini colony or at least a back up since im aware that its prone to melting...then one day zoa pox starts appearing everywhere until it just shrink and closed up and then melted...

ahh i have never heard of melting before. i really hope that doesnt happen to me when i get my vdm palys. does this happen with a lot of rare palys? what other palys does this happen too?

i think its any zoa/paly really, cause ive had expensive zoas melt on me and then ive had cheap ones melt too... so i dont think it depends on the quality/rarity of the zoa, but instead it depends on the water quality..

thanks, originally the guy fragged this piece with 2 polyps on it but the other one blew off one day when i basted it.. so i put theat next to some other red zoas, but i just looked again this morning and there is at least 3 new polyps starting to open up under the big one...
maybe the bump is a small polyp beggining to form..
