After a few years of use and no cleaning my Vectra M1 died, I am thinking of switching to reef octo as I run a pulse two wave maker which is flawless, anyone run these returns and thoughts please?

Three ways to go... 1). standard DC like you had and get about the same experience at 1 to 3 years, or so, 2). expensive DC with a Abyzz and get a good pump with a very good actual warranty at a high initial cost, or 3). an AC pump that will last for a decade for a cheap price. If you don't need to change speeds (not sure why anybody does with a return pump) and you cannot afford Abyzz, then look to Fluval or Laguna pump. Tradeoffs with any of these, but I use AC pumps since I need to them to work and work and work without issue and I don't sit there with a stethoscope on my cabinet door looking for a slight hum... and they are no more power in the real world.

Love my m2!I’ve been running a Vectra L1 and M1 for over 3 years now. I clean them every few months and have never had any issues. Once they die I‘ll definitely be replacing them with L2’s and M2’s.
My varios 6 died last week
Not sure what happened but it sparks now when I plug the power cable into the controller
Replaced it with a M2
