This will be my first saltwater aquarium but I have had several freshwater aquariums. The tank is ordered and may be here by the end of September. I’ve enclosed pictures of my rock work to see what folks think. Opinions and help are greatly appreciated. I see about a month or so of cycling. Then invertebrates followed by fish. Corals possibly at the 4-6 month mark.

I’ve had fish for 4 days now. I added Fritz Turbo start about a week ago. I’ve been testing for ammonia every other day and getting readings of zero. This seems to make sense since I only have 2 clown fish in a 50 gallon tank. Is this normal at the start of a cycle and should I add additional fish to provide more ammonia?

If you currently have fish in your tank adding ammonia is very bad for the fish. How long did you cycle the tank oh and welcome to R2R.

Thanks. I think I will show more patience.
Very early in cycle. Added Fritz turbo start about a week ago and
I just got this tank as well, should have it by the end of October! How do you like it so far?

How long has it been running?
I really like it and would be glad to answer any questions. It was the right size for place I wanted to put it. One suggestion I got and it seems like good advice was to scrap the filter socks and use floss pads from Intank.com.

It’s had water for a week followed 3 days later with Fritz turbo start and 2 clown fish 4 days ago.

Correction on intank website. It’s intankaquatics.com.

I have had water in my aquarium for 42 days now and I think it is going well. My ammonia has dropped down to 0 but my nitrates are 5 mg/l. Not sure if this is too high. I have a pair of clowns, a fire fish and a yeh. All seem to be doing well. Taking it slow when adding livestock to the aquarium.

My tank is now 80 days old and all parameters seem stable. I will be adding one light and start trying to grow corals soon. Can someone tell me what these spots are on the rocks? They are growing on the surface toward the window, though the tank does not receive direct sunlight.

Probably just algae spores starting

That was my guess. Any reason for concern? Thanks.
nope -- 80 days is still young for a tank so it will go through the "ugly" algae phase -- just kind of need to ride it out. Once it starts getting worse (when you add lights it will get exponentially worse) you can get a few different snails to help with things. my tank is just over a month and I am just starting on my ugly phase now

Can anyone suggest a lighting schedule for a kessil 360 x? Just got one light and centered it on my 35”x15” display area of my tank. I will add another light later. No corals now but hoping to add some in the next few weeks. Don’t want to get algae going. Tank is currently 90 days into cycle. Light currently sits about 10 inches above water.
