My tank is finally cycling. I want to set up my APEX, but every 24 hours I have to reset my router. I have been talking with my provider about the issue for 6 months. Is this going to be an issue with the APEX? Should I wait and get the problem fixed, or is it ok to go ahead and get it started? TIA

Yes it will be a headache! My area loses power often for some reason and knows out my wifi. Everytime it comes back on I have to reset the APEX to reconnect to the internet. I have mine hardwired direct to the modem.

Not sure how Wi-Fi is your providers problem, please explain.

I have to rent the router from them. The router goes down exactly every 24 hours. I have to unplug it and plug it back in. the router needs an update or replacing. Have already replaced it once. I would buy my own if I could.

Your internet service has nothing to do with your router rebooting everyday. Occasionally they send new configurations to the modem but it's not daily and most likely your modem is seperate from your router. Your apex operates on your local LAN. Only when it connects to fusion does it reach the outside world.

I would start by getting to know my router. Login to it, most likely 192.168.1.1. Username admin password = password. If it is different than these there is sometimes a label on the router itself with this info. If it is not google login info for your router model name.

Start by updating the firmware. Check any logs that the router may have. See if the reboot happens sporadically or everyday at the same time. I would next disconnect my ISP modem near the time it reboots to be sure that it's not the ISP sending some sort of update. If it still reboots than you have a faulty router.

I would if I could. It is locked by by provider. They have to set my password for me. Only they have access to it.

Unless a modem is built in you can indeed use your own router. If you have a static IP address then you will need to contact them for information to enter into it.

What is the service provided? Cable and fiber have seperate modems. Uverse sometimes has an all in one. Uverse sucks!

I have no choice so I Safelink. 80 bucks a month for 50 up and down. Highway robbery.

Continue to rent the router if that’s part of the deal, but I still think you can use your own router if you want. Cable providers give us the cheapest garbage equipment possible. It makes black box Leds look like G5 Radions or a regular “peasant” mushroom look like a dime-sized $800 bounce shroom.

Agree with this. I know before I had AT&T (they use a combined modem/router), I was able to use my own router AND modem with my last provider. It works out a lot cheaper that way as well. I think they wanted something like $20 a month just to "rent" each piece. I only paid $100 purchasing my own good modem and router.

Maybe I can hook up a second router to it via ethernet and use second one as WiFi?
You can hook a second router to the first as long as it has rj45 ports, but if it reboots you will be offline. I am failing to understand how any if this has anything to do with your apex. If the apex is DHCP, than theoretically it can obtain a new ip address everytime the router reboots. Assign a static ip is always preferred. If you have another router hooked up to it to you will always be able to reach the apex as long as you are home no matter if it reboots or not.

In my experience, if my internet goes down and my Apex keeps power, then the Apex has to be restarted to get back online. The Apex at times will go offline itself even when I have great internet connectivity. I enabled heartbeat feature but it still will go offline at ties for no reason.

If you get the Apex and have bad connectivity, just use it as a glorified timer. Do not put critical components on it. Just my $0.02.

Invest the money in cameras and smart switches lol.

I just purchase one of these for my system:

Outdoor Smart Plug

Will see how it holds up around saltwater. The power strip I purchased lasted a little over a year. Says it's water proof and I like that I can power off from phone if necessary.

I have rebooted my router and my cable modem several times and it has had no affect on my controller other than I have no way to get into it when I am not at home if either is down. If I am at home I can connect to the controller directly by choosing it as my wifi connection. It is not an Apex but the wifi and internet connection should not affect any controller in controlling the tank. The connection should be automatically restored once your router and or modem operation is back up and running.

I have had isp problems with the nodes going down every 20 minutes. Luckily they replaced the node after two weeks. During that time my Aquatronica controller would always connect back within seconds of the internet returning. I actually cannot think of any device in the house that required manual intervention to get online again.

Apex looses connection it requires a restart to connect back to Fusion. One of mine disconnected recently and now it’s sitting waiting to be restarted to connect again. This is without even loosing internet connectivity.

Not the case with an Apex

It is a good thing I don't have an Apex then. Sometimes I can loose my internet as much as 20 times in an hour. I don't think there is a day I don't loose it more than once. I have had them out several times and it doesn't do any good. It was fine when it was Time Warner, but since Spectrum took over I have had noting but trouble with it.
