My Yuma's....some have come and gone

When I first got into the hobby I yumas were an instant favorite of mine. I loved the chase of the ever elusive hot pink yuma. Reds and oranges were nice ones, as were some of the really unique morphs. I thought I'd share some of ones I've collected. Some have detached and melted on me. Some I killed from poor acclimation. Some I lost for reasons I don't know of, which was frustrating because I had keep them happy for years.

I'll start with the ones that are no longer with me. These were definately a pleasure while I had them.

Probably one of my all time favorite yumas, random white and pink. In 7 years I have only seen this morph twice. I had this particular one for over a year then suddenly it detached from the rock and I could not get it to reattach. Over the next couple of months it died a slow death.

I absolutely loved this true hot pink yuma. I got it at a LFS, Eyecandy Aquariums. It just came in and I happen to stop by for water. I was really hesitant because new hot pink yuma are nortorious for melting. But I knew it wouldn't be around for long cause someone would snatch it up. I took the leap and purchased it. I ended up having it for a couple years and I eventually lost it when I moved. It was about 2 inches when I first got it and over the time I had it i grew to 6 inches plus. Funny thing it never had any babies.

Moving to the ones I still thriving in my tank.

Hot pink morph. This one was fairly small when I got it. Maybe 1", it's about 2" now.

This one is kinda pinkish and sometimes it looks orangish as well. I would not classify it as a hot pink because compared to my true hot pink side by side the "hotness" isn't the same. Still love this one though and it's huge, 5" or so.

Oh man I love this one too! LOL

Welcome to the club!

I'm still a sucker for a sweet yuma. I wish my tank was bigger so I could collect more. There are so many I pass up on cause I just don't have the room. Either the light is too strong or the flow is too strong. I have a couple of sweet spots for them in my tank but not enough. Well not as much as I would like.

Hot pink ones tho, I usually grab whenever I see. Especially if they are well acclimated.

What happened to your all time favorite florida? I have never seen one with those colors, that is amazing?

They can be tough. Pink are usually the hardest for some reason.

Poor acclimation will start their decline and once they start to go downhill, I've never had one come back. And it's a slow death too. Gaping mouths is a death sentence. Poor acclimation isn't so much done on your part, it's the LFS.

I keep mine in low lighting and low flow.

I basically killed it. There was a point around 3 years ago, that I got burnt out on the hobby. Totally neglected my tank. Removed all fish so I didn't have to feed. Rarely did water changes. All I did for several months as top off. I lost a lot of corals.
