My Max Nano tank is a year old, I test the vital parameters regularly, 30% water change every 3 weeks and dose lime water via ATO. I have 6 fish all very happy and healthy.
I have quite a few corals all LPS, Chalice x 2 Frogspawn x 3 Torch x 1 and a very content BTA. All the corals are bright and have plump well extended polyps, but my zoa's just won't grow.
I have 2 smallish frags that I have own for about 3 months and if anything they are getting smaller, I cant understand why the other corals appear to be thriving the zoa's just don't seem happy. They are located on a frag rack in the middle of the tank, away from high flow and extreme light along side them is 2 frags of Clove Star Polyps which are doing well, what am I doing wrong? HELP!

zoa's take a bit trial and error to find that sweet spot in the tank. Personally I would put it in higher light, mine are all in high light. I find beginner hobbyists often mistake "low" light and flow for no light and flow.

I would also toss that clove polyps frag, you will regret it later on, they are a terrible plague.

I would play around with light intensity by placing them in a different spot. Typically if they are light deprived their stalks elongate reaching for more light. If to much light stay flat and/or might not open. If they are thriving in a lower area of the tank but you would like them in a higher area you can SLOWLY acclimate them higher with more lighting. If your iodine runs on the low side you could supplement with iodine. Mine really took off after I started supplementing with iodine. Good luck.

I had zoas do great in my tank with the exception of one, utter chaos. I had it for over a year in the tank and it grew maybe three heads, while others took over entire rocks. To try it somewhere else I cut it from the rock and for whatever reason that sparked growth. I had five heads sprout from one frag of three in a month, two shot off of a one head frag, and another has gone from two to five heads in that month.

You could try cutting it to encourage growth or move it.
