thanks guys

the lights i use are aquaray aquabeams, i have white, blue and fiji blue strips but i turn the whites off for pics.
i supplement KH aminos and nyos coral nectar. i spot feed the larger palys some mysis and cyclops once a week (i find they are the only ones that actively respond to it). I also broadcast feed a mixture of homemade reef chilli at the same time for the benefit of the other zoas.
i don't get particularly good growth on most of my zoas and palys. a few grow fast, most are slow and steady, others are nearly dormant but have occasional growth spurts. i've had some go from 1 head to 50 in a year and some that stayed just 1 polyp in the same time. iv'e found relocating a inactive zoa can give it a lease of life, so can fragging it (although thats a bit hard if its just 1 polyp). you're probably not doing anything wrong, its just different zoas like different conditions.
some good starter zoas i would recommend would be: candy apples (red, orange, purple, green), hornets (red, blue, purple), sunny d, mohawks, people eaters
