Can never tell them appart except with a bit more green on the mystery maybe? I also have seen my myagi get more green in lower light. How about the cali is the dofference only the linger coralites or how do u differentiate?
Picked up this frag few days back wondering if its a mystery?

What is a mystery tort? Just some random variant? There are a ton of variants that look similar to the myagi tort, but I have never had a myagi that had direct lineage. Cali tort is way different and is green with blue tips, or lots more blue under high par and lower kelvin bulbs.

Not sure if mystery is a random variany or some lineage on its own. I saw some labelled as mystery torts when i searched and thevall had a bit more green than myagis. Again my Myagi can have different amounts of green in different tanks or light intensity its under.

Here are what Miyagi and Cali torts look like in my display.

Miyagi has purple tips and lime-green base, the corallites are mostly tapered and grow toward light and the polyps may not be centered on the corallites. But the most differentiating feature is the branches grow in a bramble, sometimes curling sideways and fusing with other branches. Also, Miyagi tort may not even be a tortuosa. Not sure if anyone’s figured out what species it is?

Cali tort has very intense blue tips and darker forest-green base; corallites are more cylindrical and branches are more angular and regularly spaced. I did find a few corallites on mine (circled) that were a similar shape as the Miyagi.
