I have a 20 Gallon Red Reef Max Nano. It’s been up since April 26th, 2 months. Post cycling, my Nitrites were as high as 0.15 ppm, but within about 7 - 10 days dropped to 0, and they have been undetectable since via Salifert test kits. N02 and N03 have both been undetectable. I had some diatoms at first and then about three weeks of Cyno, which disappeared. I also had massive amount of a red/brown ‘algae’ of some sort that was all over the rock (anchored to the rock) and completely covered the back wall of the tanks. Like, a huge amount. I figured I had N02/3 and the algae was consuming it out of the water column, resulting in 0 values showing up on the test. I was over feeding, so this theory seemed reasonable.
I reduced feeding, and within a couple of weeks, all algae disappeared. It’s completely gone, but, my tests still read 0. N02/3 have been 0 since May 11th.
I have:
2 Helfrichi firefish
1 Tailspot Blenny
2 Trochis snails
2 Nassarius snails
4 tiny Cerith snales
14 corals
Most everything seems healthy: Gorgonian has full polyp extension, I have 3 Acropora already showing good growth, 2 montiporas doing well, Mushrooms are growing/splitting, a Leptoseris that is beginning to encrust. I have 6 hammer/frogspawn euphyllia that are doing okay… some better than others. I ca see copepods at night.
I feed pellets twice a day, I toss in some Reef Frenzy about 3 times a week
I have NO skimmer, use 1 unit of the smallest size Chemipure classic, floss, and matrix (I have about 10-15 lbs rock)
I am not stingy with my feeding
I do a 25% water change about 1/month
Salt: 34.9 ppm
Phosphate: 0.06 ppm
Alk: 7.2
N02: 0
N03: 0
Mag: used Hanna Mag checker, so who the hell knows?
Ph: 8.0
Temp; 78.2
Where are my Nitrates?
