We had 2 clowns. One just died but was doing fine for about 2 months. No issues with him what so ever. Just found him dead this morning. The only thing was yesterday he was laying on a rock breathing heavy. Our other clown is doing just fine. Was thinking maybe he swam through my hammer coral and went into shock? Any thoughts? All parameters have been steady since we acquired him and the other clown has been with us for 6 months now.

this is the breakdown of % likelihood causes:

90% disease/flukes/pathogen yet to be identified if you skipped fallow and quarantine preps
10% = will never know, could be a genetic malady unidentified but you can rule out parameters and system issues if both fish weren't harmed, if corals are behaving normally. a graze past a hammer coral won't do that, some clowns host inside hammers

if you bought the fish from a pet store and didn't enact any disease controls, start there, not in tank parameters. 90% likelihood is where you'd start the preps.

Quarantined and treated all fish and inverts. Do you know of anything that'd kill a perfectly fine fish in a day? No outward signs of disease and he was eating until yesterday.

Just blue legged hermit crabs and copepods from algae farm.
Ok but you posted that you QT and treated all fish and inverts. I was curious how you treated inverts prior to adding them in? Fish are typically low dose copper and prazi while in QT but this is not suitable for inverts.

Another fish?
Clowns can be very viscous but leave no marks.
Watch one do the mouth wag, slapping the other side to side.
Only Nemo was tame.

I used malafix for bacterial and fungal in a 5 gallon qt. Had them longer than the fish at this point so over 8 months they've been in the tank. Had no problems with them other than killing snails. That's why I don't have snails lol

The only other fish is the female. They paired up and slept next to each other so I don't think it was her. It's a possibility but I doubt it

Melafix is a tonic and pretty much useless as the label claims as its comprised of teak tree oil. It rarely works in freshwater as it is.
May be aggression or unseen injury. Aggression may contribute to it crashing into glass or other object from being chased.
Often with disease, you will see loss of appetite, elevated breathing rate, lethargic behavior and hiding
