Does anyone know what kind of anemone this is? It apparently came in on the live rock in the tank at my work. Its about 2" inches in diameter and has an extremely aggressive feed response. There are four of them in the tank. Three the same color as the one in the photo and one that is giraffe yellow.

Majano is what it looks like. Pest anemone but doesn't spread as fast as aiptasia.

I've certainly entertained the thought that it might be some kind of majano but it doesn't look like any majano I've ever seen. Of course that doesn't mean it isn't one

Additionally it has been in the tank for years and hasn't shown any sign of spreading in any fashion.

Where did you rock come from?

Cool anemone, I would like to see more images of it. Perhaps I can track down an ID.

No one remembers where the rock comes from unfortunately. The tank predates my hiring. I'll try and get some more photos tomorrow.

Well if your residing in Florida chances are good it's from that general area?

I guess a better question is what is your general location? It's a place to start and narrow down from there. Sometimes one ID leads to another.... it's a little game I play. :typing:

Judging by the location of that particular one, it's might very well be non-photosynthetic, which leads me to anemones from the Gulf and surrounding bodies of water. Since it's alive and doing well in that tank with temps probably greater than 76 F, then it's unlikely to be a temperate species..

I'm located in Edmonton, Canada actually. No natural saltwater for many hundreds of kilometers.

I do know the store the rock came from. I know they've brought in from Fiji and cultured rock from quality marine.

Most of them are hanging out in shady spots. The yellow one however is sitting 1/4 of the way up in the open of a standard 90 gallon lit with a four bulb T5 fixture (4 month old giesmann actinic+ and whites).

Cool, thanks that actually helps a lot. I 'll see what I can track down.

Some kind of Ball anemone. I have a purple one that was large and solitary. Never split or moved in the year+ I had it. Very cool creatures.
Do you have photos of this nem? Sharesies would be appreciated.

Got my friend to take a pic. Not the best but you can see it. When I first got it it looked similar to the first pic you posted. Now being in the aquaria for a few years it's changed a bit but super hardy!

That is most definitely a psuedocornactis. We also have those in our peacock mantis tank. They're a good deal smaller though, only about 2cm in diameter.

Thats pretty awesome. Some friends of mine posted a picture of a wild one down here in Florida while scubadiving. Has anyone seen the more colorful versions of this genus for sale before? Otherwise I might go looking around my beaches.
