Hi, I bought this neat purple coral that was only labeled as “leather”. Can anyone help me identify it so I can know better where it might like to be placed in the tank? I tried a couple of spots but it’s hard to know if it will open up more just by waiting or if it wants more/less flow. Thanks!

salinity 2.025
pH 7.8
Nitrites 0
Nitrates ~10
Calcium 425
Temp 78F

Pics of leather?

Generally you can forego the nitrite test in a cycled tank but you really should pay close attention to your macro elements.

You should always know what your alk, cal and mag are in relation to eachother as well as if they remain stable or not.

Ph is a little low, do you have any fresh air available in the room or home?

If your alk is low it may cause the coral not to open.

Sorry I guess the picture did not load

Alk has been in the high range closer to 300ppm. I was using reef crystals but just switched to mainly the regular instant ocean because Alk had been too high (recommended by LFS)

I don’t have fresh air in the room right now due to the season here in Michigan, but pH is usually between 7.8-8.0 when I test weekly
