Mystery spots...

So I looked up "Fungus Cure" and everywhere I read says, "For use in freshwater aquariums." This is probably because true fungus is very rare in SW fish, but more common in FW. Active ingredients for "Fungus Cure" are: "3 mg of Victoria Green B and 30 mg of Acriflavine per packet."

Acriflavine is useful for treating certain parasitic infestations (including both Brook & Uronema), but I've only used it in a standalone bath solution. So I cannot say whether or not there would be negative interactions mixing it with the antibiotics I suggested. I would do one or the other... but not both. :(

FYI Victoria Green B is Malachite green, which is useful for treating sores/injuries. I think I would give this stuff a shot first and then maybe use the antibiotics afterwards (if symptoms persist). Interesting find, as it has always been my understanding that mixing Acriflavine with either Malachite green or Methylene blue is a big no-no.

Oh man! #1 reason I don't medicate lol! I can't read!

Ok so I have the fish in this "solution" and it's still alive. No thanks to me... Due to the green water lol I can't see the growths if they've diminished or not. At least he's getting rest?

I grabbed this treatment because it described "white cottony growth" and "fish may scratch on objects and exhibit rapid breathing" which in retrospect, is the case with a lot of ailments!

Tomorrow I will try to get a closer look without stressing the fish out of its mind!!!!

update...
Fire fish perished...

I'm not sure but live brine shrimp may be to blame. I strained them but used the same net.

The store I bought the fish from used low solution Cu in their tanks and maybe after that wore off, whatever was in the water from brine shrimp took off.

The mandarin in the tank is fine so I'm guessing it was some sort of disease that their slime coat protects them from. (I purchased the Mandarin four days after the fire fish thinking she is pretty much immune to everything anyway). I decided to turn that tank into a peaceful tank and added the LR for the Mandarin.

Since the Mandarin is fine I will just let her have that tank and start a new QT. I don't think it counts as being fallow if she is in it...(she is eating frozen foods).

It could have been any number of newbie things! It's been a while since I have started purchasing new fish!!!

It could be that I decided to convert the tank to a FOWLR too soon. I added LR from my DT only three weeks of QT. My DT may have a disease in it that the cleaner shrimp keeps in check and adding the LR could have introduced it?

At any rate I'm going to bleach the nets and bucket and HOB filter and anything else that was used for the fire fish. The only addition to that tank will be a cleaner shrimp.

I will start a new QT and only put a PVC pipe in it if I decide to buy fish again.

Let this be a lesson for all:oops::confused::(
(Not that anyone else would have done any of these things in sequence lol!)

IMHO; running copper below therapeutic levels is one of the greatest disservices a LFS can do to their customers. What this does is masks symptoms of certain diseases without ever completely eradicating them. So once the fish is removed from copper, the disease comes roaring back - usually 2-3 weeks later. A LFS using copper should be responsible enough to test their Cu level daily to ensure it is within therapeutic range, or not use copper at all.

Lol I guess that's why they have a 2 week guarantee on their fish!

It's our LFS and they have been under new ownership every year it seems. At least this owner told me they ran Cu.
