Mystery Wrasse in 40 Breeder?

Okay so I'm adding a 40 gallon frag tank to my system. My current system is a 90 gallon mixed reef with a 30 gallon sump for a total of 120 gallons. The 40 breeder will be added for a total of 160 gallons. They say that a 4ft tank is the minimum for a mystery wrasse. I would add it to the display but I feel it would out compete my mandarin for pods. Cannot catch the mandarin and move it to the 40. If the mystery wrasse is too big for the 40b, I'll probably just add a yellow coris wrasse and some sailfin mollies. Any thoughts?

Stock of 90:
Cleaner Shrimp, Yellow Tang, Adult Clarkii Clown, Blue spot goby, mandarin, neon goby, various acropora, montipora, LPS, Chalices, Zoas, ect.

If it's small, it would be an acceptable temporary home.

If you've ever seen a fully grown adult mystery wrasse, you might feel a 40 is not nearly big enough. They'll push 5" and have a girth around 2".

It would def decimate your pods in your DT.

My mystery killed all my shrimp including very large skunk cleaners and blood reds once it hit full size. They were in the tank together for a year before he developed his taste for shrimp.

Otherwise, I loved him. Constant motion through the entire tank always hunting with this stealey eyes

Agreed, but the live aquaria description lies! says only ornamental shrimps and I believed them. . Lol

I assumed ornamental were the smaller sexy shrimp types. Skunk cleaners have a job and didn't consider them in that group. They are also considerably larger.

What are non ornamental shrimp that we put in our tanks?

Oh and he got my snapping shrimp too. What's that leave BCS?

Basically, if it's a shrimp and not a feeder shrimp, it's an ornamental shrimp in the hobby.

Let me first say that these are beautiful fish and one of my favorites. I have one in my 60 (which also has a mandarin) and they both are perfectly fine. All the mystery wrasses I have seen are pretty shy though, mine included. Both your 90 and 40 would be fine.

Funny I have a mystery wrasse in my 180 for the last 2 years. I think it grew about 1MM in that time. Right now its about 2.5 inches, pretty small fish. Meanwhile my hippo/Powder blue grow like you can't imagine. Different strokes.

Yes, I should be fine. I've had a Mystery Wrasse in my 41 gal. Fluval for about two years now. Call me an idiot, but I also have a Christmas Wrasse in the same tank, and I have never seen the two fight. I do have a refugium for pods, and obviously try to keep them all well fed.

After I added my mistery wrasse, all my shrimps were gone, and I was not able to add any more fish that were smaller than him. He is about 3", he is beautiful and I would add him again to my tank, but i am sad because I really love shrimps and would like to add some flasher wrasse, but unfotunately he is brutal.
