The whole genus can be aggressive, especially in the confines of a 40g, but it depends on the other fish. It will also kill most cuc you put in.

I personally prefer small Halichoeres and find it worthwhile to do the bowl of sand for them.

Icve had mystery wrasses jump as well.

Jumping isn’t a issue but putting sand in a high flow 40b might be

Bowls do a pretty good job of keeping the sand in place. The wrasse's burying will kick some up, but usually not too bad.

I like pink streak wrasses. They are more cryptic, but vastly more peaceful. You could do a trio.

That is an excellent choice ! Completely forgot about it .

Bowls are not that bad you know . I have 2 tunze stream 3, 3 MP40 in a 150 gallon acropora only reef and it’s almost 150-200 times turn over . But the bowl was at the back behind rocks hidden where it’s not in direct path of flow . Sand hardly got blow around .
But I have moved out of bowl to a proper 2 inch sandbed at the back only for my sand burrowing wrasses .

Love my pink streaked wrasse, he does hunt all day but for some reason it feels like he wouldn't be as effective as a sixline or mystery for pests.

No evidence to support that though

My mystery is pretty docile, but has and will put my anthias in their place when they think they can harrass, normally ends up being one mystery wrasse corralling 4 coopers anthias in the corner and then going about its business again..

40b is way too small for a mystery wrasse . It’s one of those jerks that generally develops a dislike for any other fish with time .
Honestly , you would be inviting quite a lot of problems introducing a mystery .

What pests do you have ? There are many peaceful Halichoeres or a little tougher to keep Anampses that will work .

Abhishek

I've had a mystery wrasse for nearly a year, first in a Fluval 16 gallon and then upgraded to a IM Fusion 20. They wrasse has never been a problem to any of the other fish in the tank. It hides when I first enter the room. Mine is shy, never aggressive.

My mystery wrasse won't touch pyramid snails. I recently had an aiptasia outbreak, so I decided to gamble and added 4 berghia nudibranch. Couple months later I had about a hundred. I also tried keeping a few clams and was unsuccessful due to pyramid snails. I added a yellow coris wrasse and I'm fixing to add some peppermint shrimp to deal with my aiptasia.

Do you have any cleaner shrimp, bumblebee snails and pepermint shrimps?

I have all these and need to add a flatworm/ coral pests and worm cleaner fish and wondering which one would be safe?

I am currently contemplating - yellow corris wrasse, black/ blue star leopard and possibly pink-streaked wrasse - if I can find one.

Anyone with any personal experience with such a situation as me?
