Hi Guys,

Bought what I thought was Frogspawn but the lady at the LFS said it was a hammer and then I did some research and now I think it's a Torch! Ughh, well I want to make sure I give my new baby the right conditions for full extension, it was really stretched out in the display tank. I know its only been 24 hours but I feel like I need to know exactly the type of euphyllia I have on my hands to do proper research on what it needs to be happy. I'm thinking maybe I have it in too high of a flow area because they aren't getting blown to one side on all the youtube videos I have seen. Thanks!

Thanks! It is my first coral, along with some GSP. Do you guys reccomend a beginners starter kit with buffer, calcium, minerals etc. Basically all the stuff they need to thrive?

Sweet torch!
Sometimes when LFS's purchase from different wholesalers colored down gold torches are sold as regulars. Cross your fingers and you might be one of the lucky guys!

You can remove the frag plates/plugs. You don't need them. you can glue the bottom of the torch skeleton and GSP directly to the rock.
Also placement of your GSP is important, it can easily become a weed; given the right conditions, it will grow fast and spread.

Have you tested your water yet? You can probably get away with water changes alone for now, but as you add more & more corals to the tank the demand will go up so you'll probably have to start dosing.

Thanks this is helpful but a little overwhelming! I use RO/DI water only and monitor PH, Ammonia, Salinity, Nitrates, Nitrites and Temp and those are all within parameters and very stable. It is a 125 Gallon with 2 firefish, 4 Large 4 inch Zebra Darts, 1 cleaner Shrimp, 1 Banded Coral Shrimp. The tank is about 7 weeks old I used 120lbs dry rock and seeded with two small live rocks and a coraline branch. I have been going very slow and carefully. No idea how to track levels such as Calcium, Magnesium and Phosphate I will have to find out. I am going to order a TDS meter, and I have a Phosban Reactor given to me but I haven't set it up yet. I do not have a Skimmer yet that is my next planned purchase so until then I am not going to add anything else. My goal for the tank overall is really not much more fish wise, 4 Dispars, 2 Neon Blue Goby, Foxface Lo and either a yellow or kole tang. The rest will be Softies and LPS . Thanks for the advice!

Going forward will use bone cutters and crazy glue. They told me at the LFS to use a flathead screwdriver to pry them but it didn't work and I was afraid to damage them so I left the plugs on and cemented them into deep holes with non-toxic stone repair powder. I know better know after reading about it, because you have to move them around for the best location but thankfully so far they seem happy. As for the GSP I stuck it on an Island, a smaller rock that can be moved if necessary.

You would track them the same way you do your other parameters. Test kits, looks like you left Alkalinity of the list. With only a couple corals the numbers won't change much; as you add more they (especially the Alk) can deplete quickly.
Skimmer is an important purchase (you don't need one, but I personally would not run a tank without one) make sure you get a quality one - there are differences.
