Happy Friday,

I bought this frag at my LFS in the $5 section but the kid at the store didn't know the name of it. It looked healthy and was only $5 and I like the red and blue look so I bought it.

Does anyone know what this is? It looks like a type of Cyphastrea (maybe Meteor Shower?). I'm just trying to figure out where to position it in the tank. $5 seems cheap for a Cyphastrea, but I also bought a nice sized and healthy looking Pavona for $5, so maybe they just had a sale going. Thanks for your insight!

Yeah, I'm wondering if the kid sold it to me for $5 by mistake because the Pavona he sold me I later found on their website for $30 and I bought it for $5. The Meteor Showers they are selling online for $25 for the same sized frag. So either they had a sale on or that kid was confused on the pricing. Either way, I'm happy with it. Thanks for your insight!

I'm going to second Meteor Shower as well, $5 is a steal! Definitely looks like mine when my frag was smaller. As it gets bigger and more polyp extension the outside edges of the polyps should be a yellow-orange and centers are more red.

Sweet! Thanks! I'm looking forward to that. Where did you place yours in the tank for best growth?

Very pretty! They are shade loving corals! They thrive in a lower lit enviournment, so I would place it in an area youd like to fill an encrusted coral. They grow extremely fast. Enjoy!

Thanks. I've got it under the light towards the bottom of the tank, but I will move under a rock overhang where it will get mostly shade. Thanks for the advice!

I've actuality got mine under mid lighting and it's doing very well - stunning color and pretty fast growth. I acclimated it there fairly slowly though.

Do they like a lot of water flow?

All of the "stoney" encrusters are very forgiving to extremely turbid flow. The best way for me to put it, is have enuff or greater flow to prevent detritus/sediment from settling on the coral. Other then that cyphastrea are very pretty, keep in mind they'll cover everything in its path!
