Name this favia

Hello all. I just picked up this favia from my lfs but I have no idea what it is. Under blues it's the brightest coral in the tank even after just being dipped.

The guy at the store said some call it Yahtzee but I can't find any resemblance or reference to that name anywhere, the closest thing I've found is electric favia but it had lines around it's mouth instead of splatter. These pics don't do the brightness justice.

My opinion: The "street name" doesn't matter as long as you like it. Use your taste as a gauge on what a coral is worth, not what others say it is. Very nice coral.

I agree that the appearance and enjoyment matters more than the name, but it is still good to know the name, if a coral has one.

I only know about 3 favia names, and none of them are this beauty, so I can't help there. Do post another pic when it's fully inflated, though! It's a lovely find.

Splatter favia/goniastrea, which I think is a coelastrea.

Yeah, that's what happens when all the coral sellers insist on calling everything new, flashy names. All the short names get used up.

(Admittedly, the name does convey "this is a brightly colored favia with toxic-colored eyes and a splattered pattern" pretty well. But "toxic eye splatter favia" would also work just fine.)

Honestly stores just name them what they want. The crazier the name, the more money they get.

I like some of the names. Some are really descriptive, some are somewhat descriptive and a little bit cool. But it seems like it's gone from descriptive names, maybe a bit funny, to trying to make it sound as cool and fancy as possible. Went from Jack-O-Lantern leptoseris, Dragon Soul favia, and Red Planet acro, to... that up there.

Definitely second giving it at least a few days before trying to identify. I've had a few that had minor color changes or shifts, like standard green and purple favia that actually pulled yellow in different lighting similar to a dragon soul or others that developed some orange. Reefer Matt's does look close though!

(Honestly, I didn't even think of that, I just want to see it when it puffs up. I love splattery markings on corals.)
