Nano Advise

Also, I never even thought about a controller. I see there are many different options, any recommendations or ones I should avoid?
I have the Apex as well. It can do a lot easy enough. Internet has never been an issue with me as I just have it hardwired. It is a love/hate relationship though. When you need it the most, like on vacation, is when it seems to let you down or just prior to leaving. Never-the-less, I won't set up a tank without one, now.

Howdy and welcome to R2R!!

Welcome to the R2R family!

I’ve had three IM AIO..the Fusion 30L, Fusion 40 & I still have the Fusion 25 Lagoon to use as a frag tank.
Apex is a great controller. I’ve had one since my first tank

I've been away from the hobby for a loooong time and finally want to dive back in. No better place to get advise since I've been away and things have changed since I left. So I'm looking for help setting up a nano reef tank for my daughter to discover and enjoy. I have my old Radion XR30W 1st Gen light(s) that I can use. I have seen that there were upgrade kits but even those came out years ago so not sure where I could even find those to buy.

My goals-
20 gal tank apx
Have the ability to house an assortment of corals.

I guess here are my questions:
=What plug and play set would be the best way to go?
-Should I keep and try to use/upgrade my Radion's or go with whatever the plug and play comes with?
-Set up add on suggestions (powerheads, return pump, skimmer, etc).
-Any other tips or suggestions are always welcome.
Welcome to R2R and back to reefing. Lots of knowledgable and helpful people here to support and advise you.

Welcome to the forums and back to the hobby! As others have mentioned, your options are nearly limitless for all this stuff. There's plenty of "newbie" forums which will help you get reacquainted with the new info.

As for the controller, I personally have an Apex, and greatly appreciate having it. They recently released a lower-tier version costing substantially less, as well, if price is a concern. Other than that, Pi Reef (maybe it's Reef Pi, can't remember off hand) is a great, cheap, flexible system if you have the technical inclination.

+1 IM is probably your best option for a 20 gallon tank. Waterbox makes nice nanos too but I like the IM aps stands better. If you were willing to go a bit bigger, the Jbj rl tanks are very nice. I have the 45 but they also make a 30 and 60. As for skimmer For an aio, I recommend the tunze or aquamaxx. They both make great products. For controllers, I have an apex system and like it. You might not need it at first but down the road it is very helpful with maintenance and monitoring the tank when you’re on vacations. I would for sure set aside some money for lights. Keep the light you have now but have money set aside. With an older fixture, who knows how much time it has left.

I got back into the hobby
With an 18" nano cube with sump, 25 gal.
I ran the black box led and had very good growth.
System was an aquatop out of southern cal I believe. I have an Apex and never set it up lol.
Many ways to go. Just keep in mind you will run out of room real quick in a nano tank.
Get a quality return pump too

Got the green light from the wife today. The waterbox 20 is ordered, keeping the Radion 30 first gen that I have, ordered the apex-el and atk. That should get me started. I have a heater and small wave maker from my old tank. If anyone can think of what else I might need let me know.

Protein skimmer, media reactors, ato reservoir, and eventually dosers ;)

I’m really leaning towards getting one, how do you like it so far?
