Just bought a red starfish a40 for quarantine tank and a couple of peppermint shrimp (main tank has a fuzzy dwarf so can’t put in there).

it comes with a protein skimmer. Hubby wants to take out and put bioballs and media in with weekly water change instead.

what is everyone’s opinion on it?

I'd keep the protein skimmer and figure out a way to add the media.
