The concept behind the bubble scrubbing is to create very tiny bubbles, if that device does that I don't see why you can't use it.

The reason why people use the wooden air stones is because it creates the tiny bubbles and its small.

The device above uses electrolysis (hope I spelled that right).
It's two mesh sheets with one having a positive and the other having a negative lead hooked up. Plug it in and it separates the hydrogen and oxygen molecules in the water. I just don't know if it's safe for saltwater. These are primarily used for freshwater sterilization.

Thank you.
That is what I needed to know.
So the best way to do this is with the wooden limestone?
Is there something better? Something that will create smaller bubbles than the wood air stone?

Is there anything I need to be concerned about trying this?

I don't know that there is any convincing data concerning what bubble sizes are best, so its hard to say what methods are best.

Thank you again.

Do you know of any air stone that produces smaller (finer) bubbles than the wood limestone or a way to get the bubbles to be like a fog or mist? I do not want to use high head pressure if I can avoid it because I do not want to harm the fish with the bends.

There are certainly scientific methods that make much finer bubbles, but I do not know of a better way than a wood diffuser or a venturi that folks would typically use on a reef tank.

I use an old rio rvt pump that was meant for a protein skimmer. It makes really small bubbles.
