Nano display Refugium Lighting

The red with the thin, stiff branches it doesn't like, it just moves them around. The softer pretty reds, it munches on 24/7. Red Grape was one of the first ones gone, then the one next to it... oh well I got them to keep him alive. Got a little surprise planned for this afternoon... check back.

I gotta get a nap, been up since 3PM EST yesterday, worked all night came home to my HVAC frozen and the start condenser shot on the circulating fan. I spin started the fan and turned it to the on position so it'll stay on. I'll tackle that this week while I'm off... so busy this week.

Surprise!

It's a Deep Blue 35g cube. I think it's 20"x20"x20". I found it on the local reef club facebook last night and couldn't let it go by without at least going to look at it. It's dirty, but the glass is perfect. Tank, stand, sump, plumbing and a ATO jug. Maui should really like this one.

Maui might be spoiled:)

Just a little....

The plan is for Maui, Fedora and Bonnie and Clyde to live in here. Oh and the shrimp, I guess he needs a name if he's gonna be in a tank where everything else sentient has a name. I have an idea of a few other fish but I'll have to figure out exactly what I want. Equipment to transfer over; Curve 5 skimmer from 75g, A160 from 14g nano, Koralia 565 powerhead from 14g, SW-2 powerhead that comes in Tuesday, Smart ATO Micro from 14g. I just need rocks and sand. Oh and a return pump... kinda need a return pump. My Jebao 6000 is way too big to fit in the sump. I think I want to do that Hawaiian black sand and some Tonga branch rock, maybe a shelf or two. Oh and some kind of under the sand tunnel system for Maui... I'll have to do some looking at Lowes and see what kind of tubing I could use. I'll clean the rocks in the 14g as best as I can while they are still wet and add them once the cycle is finished.

I'm gonna keep this 10g going with the six line and macros, and actually grow them. There's pods all in the filter and the six line seems happy here.

I'll start a build thread once I get all this wedding stuff behind me. After Saturday I can no longer call her "the fiancée."

@Susan Edwards I'm going to use the PAR38 on the new 35g cube. There's a small section in the sump right after the filter sock I'm going to put some chaeto in. I'm going to try and cycle the aquarium with the chaeto. Plants absorb ammonia faster than they do nitrates, so hopefully I'll have a quick cycle. It'll probably be a few weeks before I can get the tank cycling. Gotta buy rocks, sand and a return pump. I need to measure that return section and see what I can fit in there.

So after I typed that I googled the sump. It's an Eshopps Cube Nano Refugium. The sump and the Protein skimmer are plumed in parallel, so all the pods from the fuge go straight to the return and not thru the skimmer. WOO HOO! Maybe once everything is established, I can get a mandarin. Also the return section is 3.5"x5.5"... Hmmm what will fit that?

Edit: Sicce Silent 2.0 and 3.0 will fit(same size) and looks to be plenty of flow. 568 and 714gph.

Home from work, finally! Got the goodies unloaded from the truck. "Nused" tank pictures! Man, this thing is dirty. Stinks too... After my nap today I'll get the vinegar out and start scrubbing. It's sitting in the garage for now until it no longer stinks like decaying organics.

The Curve 5 is mine, well it's all mine now, but I had it from my 75g. Whew, it fits... was borderline worried about that.

This sump is cool. Water enters the filter sock chamber(back left) and can flow into the bottom of the refugium(front left) or thru the filter sock(missing). After the water goes thru the filter sock it enters the skimmer chamber(front right). This chamber has an elevated bottom and a channel ujnder it where the refugium water flows to the return. The skimmer section overflows into the return also. It's completely parallel flow in a compact cube that first great in this small stand.

There's just enough room for this 1.25g water jug to fit inside the stand for an ATO. I'll have to see how long it lasts, we may be keeping my 5g jug off the the side. Also, I don't like that it has a drinking spout on it... maybe a PVC cap will be the same threads and will seal.

Elbow deep in 5% vinegar(high as a kite), old dish sponge, metal scraper... she's getting clean! Just trying to stay busy doing something right now after todays nuclear let down of the century... turns out I'm not getting married Saturday.

Oh well it's me and my dog now, we'll make it. I have the reef tanks to keep me busy, and NOBODY to complain that I'm too obsessed with fish.

Progress pics...
