I bought this tank on craigslist. This is the filtration for it. The problem is I dont feel any sucction on it? Is this normal or is there something that can increase this? This is my first nano cube (14g). The reason I ask this is all actross the top there seems to be good water movement but there are a TON of white particles at the top. I do have a protein skimmer in there.

If you block the bottom vent you can do the "cassette surface skimmer" mod. A quick search will explain it better than I ever could.
You may also want to upgrade the pump that came with the tank. I'd recommend the MaxiJet 900 or 1200 since they run much cooler and give higher flow than the stock pumps that come with a lot of all in one tanks.

+1 to the above... also, check my thread I have the 14g w/ an overflow box (previous owner did it.... same idea tho as above mentioned mod, if u can find a cassette still anyway lol), but either way I'd uprade the return pump that will increase the flow/ suction (on the back side). I wouldn't block of the bottom section personally tho, that should ensure your return doesn't run dry if you forget to top off for a while lol

https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/nano-reefs/96028-our-mini-sticktopia.html The cost would just depend on the cost of the material, but I would assume not much. The pics don't show the overflow box fully but u can get the idea im sure.... but its really just a standard DIY overflow box siliconed to the back wall. I believe you can order an overflow box premade from like BRS or somethin also.

I just looked in the back today and the water in the back is definitely stagnant. I don't even think there is any sucction at all. Is this possible? The power head is running though. Does the powerhead suck water up from the back or does it just blow air?

With two inlets for water to enter, you won't be feeling much suction as it is. With a more powerful pump you may feel some but not much more.

If you can feel the water moving out of the return nozzle is moving pretty well then you know your pump is working.

The water that is in the back, or reservoir isn't going to move like the agitated water in the front if the tank because the return pump is only sucking in water from the bottom of the last chamber...so there's nothing to agitate the water, but it isn't stagnant if the pump is still pushing out water into the tank.

Still, a pump upgrade to a maxi jet 900 is the most I would go. 1200 would simply push too much water IMO.

Hope that helps.

Thanks alot for the tank. It just looked like it and it was bothering me. Possible an upgrade in the near future.
