Nano fusion 10 with sump

So to start my name is Nate, I’ve been in the hobby for two years now. Still very new to the hobby and i don’t have any friends in the hobby yet So i joined the forum.
I failed miserably with my last nano reef. So this time i was determined to succeed.
I purchased an innovative marine nuvo 10
And installed a ten gallon sump so i could run a larger skimmer and have a fuge.
I’m really pleased with the results so far only being 3 months old. But my question is has anyone else sumped a nano tank?

I've always been interested in Nano tanks but never looked at any outside of the AIO tanks. But what caused you to fail the first time? From what I hear as long as you do weekly water changes consistently on nanos, you shouldn't have issues.

I failed with my last tank due to a heater not working and over heating my tank while i was at work. The reason i went with AIO is to hid curtain things in the back of the tank but i also sumped it to be able to install a large fuge and skimmer. I built redundancy throughout the entire system so i don’t lose $$$ this time. Well that’s the goal.

And as for water changes i do 2 gallons a week and so far everything is stable. I check my parameters every other day to be sure. After my tank crashed I’m very careful. I also decided to try SPS for the first time.

I would love to see some photos of the sump/plumbing. I have a fusion 10 and was thinking about doing this as well

I'm thinking about doing my Nuvo 20 as well. I HATE all the crappy little skimmers and reactors available and there is just too much stuff crammed into the back of mine. Please keep us posted on how this works out for you.

The clutter is why i did it. Once i get home from work I’ll post pictures and go into more detail on how i did it.

I kno I’ll get some crap for this but i chose to do a diy overflow.
I installed it in the return pump section of the filter. From the in goes into the skimmer section of the sump. As for the two other sections of the back of the tank i just have matrix media and chemi pure blue.
I have a cheaper in-sump skimmer (SC-301)
In my fuge i have more matrix media and cheato.
In the baffle i have a media bag filled with more matrix (too much media??)
Then my return pump section i have two pumps.
One pump is going up to the display tank and the other pump is fed back to the skimmer section though a filter sock for more circulation though the sump.
I will be building a different sump to more suit my needs soon. Will update when build starts.

I started off with just the AIO setup but quickly realized water changes are easier with a sump and i could use a larger protein skimmer. I Love the low maintenance it requires.

I used a IM ATO and a Tupperware container for the water. Works great.

I have an eshopos nano overflow box to a DIY 10 gallon sump. It drops directly down through a hole I drilled in the cabinet ( I built the caninet, so I can drill it, lol). There isn’t a single bend or elbow in the 3/4” down tube.

Then I have it pumping back out through 5/8 tubing that goes through a gate valve back to the return elbow right next to the eshopps box.

The 13.5 Fluval has a little floss, poly filtered and some Chemipure blue nano. That’s all.

The sump just has chaeto and some loose love rock pieces. The tank is still less than 2 months so I haven’t added much to the sump or tank.

Looking for a good affordable sump skimmer, but in no hurry, not sure if I even need one.

You should redo that sump. I was advised to and did so because of a bubble chamber improvement. You should because you have given up at least 3-4 gallons of water you could add for stability and larger refugium. In a tank as small as yours that is a huge benefit you are giving up. Just my two cents. You would still have plenty of room for overflow.

Edit; Oh, I see you are, good plan, make sure the baffles are taller.
