Sounds like a nice setup for a dorm. You’re smart to only have one fish in there. It’s harder to maintain stability in a tank that small so SPS could be tough. You can keep all your parameters in check with water changes. You don’t need a skimmer on a tank that size (plus the nano skimmers aren’t that great). I’d get a heater with a separate controller because tank temps can change fast in a tank that small. You could use an LED light for the corals. As far as test kits, here’s what I use: Alk and PO4: Hanna Checkers; Ca, Mg, and NO3: Salifert; SG: refractometer; temp and ph: apex jr. We’re all here to help so ask away and good luck!
