Hello all- I'm working with my 6 gallon Fluval Edge and I really love all aspects of it. I need a lighting upgrade for my corals, but want to keep the clean, sleek, hooded look of the design so I've been searching around. I saw this on a youtube video, and is something I'm interested in trying.
I've attached a pic of a tank I saw (not mine) that I was curious about...

What this gentleman has done is create a sort of additional frame along the top of the tank, disguised it in matching back so it looks like trimming- definitely a look I can get behind. Not sure of his light choice...etc. and have been reading a lot and am overwhelmed by all the complex information. If I were to do this, what would be the IDEAL LED light strip/dioder to purchase? All your opinions and help would be very much appreciated!

The other option is to just go with an awesome Ultrabright mod, already made into the Fluval Edge hood. Which keeps the look but boosts lighting. More expensive, but pretty darn pretty.

Thanks so much for your help!

RapidLED may have a retrofit kit which would definitely be a great upgrade.

What type of LEDs are in the existing hood? If they are not at least 3 watt diodes you may benefit from a complete overhaul instead of supplementing.

The ultrabright mod doesn't have a lot of power either and I didn't see any mention of lenses.

Thanks for your input. The stocks light with the Fluval Edge is a 21-LED, 3W fixture, so yeah, I'm looking for an update, probably a complete overhaul, and sorry- I mis-typed. I'm actually looking at this, the Edgebright update, which looks/sounds great, available in 9w, 18w, 27w, and 36w set-ups. They are also programmable, and with dimmer. I'm thinking it's the route to go...
