Howdy.
I've had this small Fluval EVO tank for about 7 or 8 months now and recently emptied it since I upgraded to a 4ft (doesn't take long for new tank fever to hit this hobby does it?) however I didn't want to get rid of the old Nano so I've quickly filled it back up with some fresh sand and some rock from my 4ft. I do have more rock I can add but my pistol shrimp had accompanied it so I've left it for the time being.
BUT... I'm scratching my head as what to actually do with this nano. With already having a relatively new 4ft reef tank I don't really want to have a second reef tank with inhabitants I can just easily have in my main tank. So, I'm wondering does anyone have any good suggestions? Suggestions I've had from one person seems to be easily getting shot down by another, and with myself being relatively new to the hobby I don't want to make the wrong move.
Suggestions I've been given so far;
  • Frogfish w/some softies and macro algae
  • Dwarf Lionfish
  • Smaller breed of Mantis Shrimp
  • Fancy clowns w/ Nem (not my favorite idea since I already own clowns in the main)
  • Seahorses (tanks not really tall enough imo?)
  • Few other ideas as well
I'm not fussed whether or not this tank has corals or not since I have that for my main tank, but any ideas would be really appreciated because I'm most definitely pulling my hair out and finding it in my path again as I walk in circles ;Dead

Oh, and for those wondering this is the main tank, 4ft freshwater converted. Now about a month or so old

Have you thought about a rock flower anemone tank with a few small fish - clown goby, fire fish, etc?

I've not, they look pretty awesome. That being said, is that not something I can just have in the main tank as well? I'm hopeful I can find something interesting that is different to what I can already have, if you know what I mean

Sure; RFAs do require target feeding and that might be more difficult to accomplish in your main tank, but a lot of reefers have them in their big DTs. They do have spectacular color and I think your Evo light would be sufficient. Just a thought because my LFS just got some.

Do you know if they're redily available in the UK? Can't say I've ever seen them before

I vote for the clowns and nem. Let the nem split and go wild. Would be easy maintenance wise too.

After making some more purchases today for my main tank, I'm still searching for something for the Nano :(

Pipefish with Seagrass?
Caribbean biotope with gorgs nps and a chalk basslet?
Mantis shrimp?
frag tank?
Zoanthids only?
