Hey everyone. I'm just thinking out loud here. But I'd love to add extra water volume to my 29 gallon BioCube, but right now with my 7 gallon ATO tank, there's no way I could fit anything else in there.

Does anyone make a sump that fits in the stock stand, has a fully functional sump area, but ALSO includes an ATO section that is sealed off? I was just thinking that this would be a GREAT product.

Not sure if one already exists or not, but if one does, if someone could point me in that direction, that would be great!

Thanks, and let me know what you think!

Marc

That would make for a VERY small ATO section. Can't say I've ever wanted a small ATO container...

How big is the interior of the stand??

Hex - from my understanding, that doesn't have an ATO compartment, it's just a full blown sump.

Obviously larger tanks you need a large ATO. My 29 biocube has a 7 gallon ATO, and it would take me 2.5-3 weeks to use all of that water, so in this case, or maybe nano's in general, a smaller ATO area wouldn't be the first thing.

he just asked if they existed, not if its a good idea or design. But most f the small nano sumps Ive seen do in fact have ato sections as well.

That eshopps has an ATO section? I don't see it mention that anywhere on the site, and I do remember seeing a video of it too...and it didn't mention a ATO area

ignore. wrong link

Well it cant be much smaller than my RSM C130 Stand, I went with a custom sump from lifereef. Basically a slightly smaller version of one of his standard sumps. Now you don't have to go overboard like I did but it has a separate 6 Gallon ATO next to it so I can slide it out to clean on it's own.

Hey Josh,

Do you happen to have a link for them. I'd be very interested in this. Also, if you don't mind, about how much did you spend on it. If you want, feel free to PM me. I'm looking to add more volume my tank, but still keep everything enclosed and under the stand to keep my wife happy :-)

Thanks!

Www.lifereef.com Jeff works on his own so there is a bit of a wait but they are totally worth it. What I ended up paying is a bit (well quite a bit more) than what you would be paying as I got a skimmer, 2 reactors, 3 pumps, ATO, refugium, custom shelf... the list goes on lol

http://lifereef.com/nano.html if you scroll down you will find a few systems designed for biocubes...

Josh, that a slick looking set up you got there! From what you've said, let me see if I follow: Left side red box is skimmer (made by him as well I assume)/bio block. Right side red box are some reactors/return pump. Yellow box is a separate container you had him make to fit your dimensions, and can slide in and out. Is the green box a small refugium area?

I don't think i would go the route of the reactors, and probably have a skimmer, and then a refugium chamber, and either have the ATO section all in one, or maybe go the route of having it as a separate container.

Gotta start putting away the pennies!

Hex. Thanks for the link....definitely too small of an ATO. Appreciate you finding that for me though!

You follow correctly, overflow spills into the skimmer section. Then flows over onto a filter pad with marine pure blocks underneath then over to the return section where there is the return pump and pump for the reactors. Yellow is the separate ATO and green is my fuge which will have cheato in it today (FINALLY!). Everything you see is custom. Even the skimmer with a custom shortened cup, all custom sized to fit in my cabinet.

@cromag27 could make you something. Quality work. You won't be disappointed.

Octo aquatics is another great option, there are numerous custom manufacturers you can go with and by all means look into all of them. I just suggested Lifereef because that's the only one I have experience with and he's the only one who makes skimmers as well.

And your plan sounds solid that's the great thing about custom is you can have it set up exactly the way you want.

I didn't even think of that! I've actually got a custom lid on order from him as we speak! Definitely something to think about!
