Nano Tangs Wen?

Is it just me or does everyone want a tang suitable for a nano tank? Can we get some bio-engineers on this or do I just need to suck it up and get a bigger tank?

Suck it up and get a bigger tank

I won't set up another tank that isn't large enough for at least a couple of tangs. They are the most valuable members of my CUC. I have one tank with nuisance algae and it's the one to small for tangs.

What size tank are you referring to when you say nano tank?
Often, a Tomini tank will work but it has to be at least 18-20 inch tank. Tangs get sizeable and also territorial and places to hide. With places to hide, this requires some rock structures which reduce water volume - as example a 30 gallon tank will offer 22-23 gallons of useable water volume after rock is placed within.
I have 26 tangs alone and they are in their downsized minimum tank which is 400 gallons.

26 tangs in a 400 mg … how is that possible? What’s your water change routine like..

400 Gallons- Not mg. I rarely change water as I do 2 gal a day exchanges, use triple filter socks, UV unit, algae scrubber and large protein skimmer

I have heard mixed info on this. I do have a 29g with quite a bit of rock work! It has some nuisance algae so it would be nice to have a fish that can eat it! 29 is 30" long by 12" deep and 18" tall! Take a look, I think my tank is well stocked with 2 clowns, a possum wrasse, tail spot goby, and watchman goby. There are also a few cool shrimp! 3 sexy, 1 pistol, and 1 peppermint.

There are many beautiful fish and most tangs that would even fit in a smaller tank are just “okay” looking.

My tail spot blenny eats so much algae as do pitho crabs and there are tuxedo urchins too.

No one can stop you from putting a tang in there but it’s pretty obvious there is no good swimming area in that tank. More so once it actually grows in.

Also cherubs and flameblacks make the little bristle tooth’s look homely. Just my opinion.

I have all those 3 you mentioned and apparently i got the C string players because they dont touch my hair algae.

Are cherubs and flamebacks reef safe? I will probably wait until I have a larger tank for tangs, but I still want someone to touch on the topic of bioenineering smaller size fish for the hobby xD Someones gotta chime in with a mini shark desire lol

Mostly yes, dwarfs are not uncommon in reef tanks. I have never had a dwarf that ate coral of the several I have had. It’s not impossible, just seems to be a good chance they are behaved if properly fed.

Classified as reef safe caution. They can or may show interest in coral. I have a potters-flame - coral beauty and they could not care less about my coral

what kind of coral do they typically like to eat? @Tamberav can you also speak to this?

never had one that did but for most fish that eat coral, it’s fluffy/meaty LPS. I don’t see any of that in your tank.
