nano tank skimmer vs refugium

I am trying to find out if its better to run a skimmer or refugium on a 10 gallon tank as it has a hob filter that I could mod into a refugium or is a skimmer better at removing stuff as I want to make this as close to bomb proof as I can as I seem to have a do a every good water change as sometimes I over do it

Fuge would help with pH and with nitrates. I'm sure it doesn't take long to stack 'em up in a 10 gallon.

I'd go with a skimmer as well. If you don't give the macro algae room to grow it won't be very effective.
