hi I am a noob when it comes to salt water tanks and before yall start with the bigger is better all I could afford was a ten gallon tank I am cycling it right now with six blue leg hermitcrabs but I know the stock I want a Ocellaris Clownfish and a goby or a blenny I also need help finding a good hood for it as I have a biowheel penguin 150 on it and the hood wont close

I have a 20 long tank. I bought a glass canopy/hood for it. It was only 19 bucs at petsmart. I'm sure a ten gallon one would be a few bucks cheaper. The biowheel will work fine. I need to upgrade mine cause I only have the same biowheel on my 20 long. I was in your same shoes 3 months ago. I wanted to start a tank and could afford bigger also. Things are working great for me. I am still learning but this forum is the best. You'll get alot of answers far better than mine, but I'll be watching and learning too. Are you going to be adding corals?? Just asking cause I wasn't but then I could resist and I've started slow but I have a few frags in there doing well.

You might have to get 2 additional corner pieces

For smaller tanks you just gotta check the water parameters more. Well, at least that works for me. I don't even mix my own saltwater anymore. I started the tank with tap water that I treated and since been buying my water premixed using ro water from my reef gallary. A buc a gallon. I buy it 5 gallons at a time and transfer it to a holding tub with a heater and match my salinity and temp for water changes. I also buy plain ro water from my store too for top offs.

and set it up like this

See good idea. Never knew about these. Prolly let's way more oxygen in then having a glass canopy. Thanks brian. Good info.

Hi I was in your shoes a over half a year ago. I started a 10 gallon and things have been going good. All my corals are doing great but I haven't had any success with fish :(. Any questions? Just ask and dont give up. This is a very rewarding hobby. Can post some pics later for you if you would like

What do you mean no luck with fish? What type? What happened?? If you don't mind me asking. This isn't my thread so sorry if I shouldn't ask.

There's tons of really cool gobies you could put in there, Live Aquaria has a nano fish section you could browse through.

what is easier to care for a goby or blenny and this is a fowlr tank I might get a anemone

tmac18 I don't mind I also want to know major_oak what fish u had as I know a little bit about salt water fish but alot

What are you planning on feeding? I ask cause I got really disappointed when I first started cause I bought prime reef flakes and my first 3 fish were an oc clown, 2 stripe damsel and a pj cardinal. The damsel ate the flakes well, the clown picked at it and the cardinal never even flinched. I thought the pj was going to starve. Now, I bought reef frenzy, frozen mysis and brine. I alternate but mostly reef frenzy now that I have corals and every fish goes nuts over it. If I were you bandit, get reef frenzy or mysis shrimp. Both very good for the fish and they devour it. That's just my opinion. If anyone else has an opinion please share as I consider myself a newb also. This was just from my little experience. Oh I just added a fire fish. Amazing fish. Mine is so beautiful. He's been in my tank for 9 hours so far and has hid the whole time until I feed reef frenzy and he came out and ate with the clown. No fighting so far!!!

I was thinking pellets or flakes as I have not found much on what to feed them as I am coming form fresh water to salt water I have fresh water flounders that I got form a friend he said they are f1 hog choker flounders I had them form hatch till now feed them live food so not opposed to feeding live food
