I have this naso tang for close to a month now in QT. I know the QT tank is too small and tomorrow if it lives until then im setting up a 55g tank just for it to be in QT. It was just fine when i got it a month ago. It was eating great. I did a week of prazi after it was in the tank. it did just fine. Then a few days after that I started cupramine. After 1 day it stopped eating started breathing heavy. The copper never even made it to the recommended lvl yet I did half the recommended dose. After keeping an eye on it and kept checking it every hour or so it was suddenly on the bottom of the tank on its side basically dying. I immediately did about a 90% water change to get the copper out. It then stopped laying on its side and was starting to recover. I was really greatful at this point knowing if i didnt happen to be there that soon it was a goner for sure. I also added another air stone right when i did the water change. There was one in the tank the whole time but I added a second and a small power head to try and get more oxygen in the tank.

It has now been probably about the 10 day range since that day. Ive done another water change since then. But it because will not eat anymore. I think I rarely see it eat a small piece of Larrys frozen food. It is basically starving itself and will die but I dont know what else to do. I just ordered the other day some Selcon and some Bright well aquatics garlic concentrate to try it.

It has been breathing heavy for awhile now and im not sure what to do to be honest. Yesterday it seemed to be getting a little white under its gills. But it actually seems a little more active.. Today its not spending most of its time like floating vertical. The white under its mouth may be a little bit bigger. Im guessing it must have swim bladder or something now with it swimming verticle. I just dont really know what to do... Should I be trying to treat it with something? Ive seen this one time before a few years ago with a clown fish and it died in about 2 days once it started this. Is there anything I can do to help it? I'm getting the bigger tank tomorrow morning if it survives until then. But then I wonder if Im setting up this bigger tank for it to only live for like another day. It is currently in a 29g tall tank. Which i know it NOT ideal for this fish but i was told for QT it would be fine. Any help would be welcome if there is something i can do to save this fish.

Some tangs are "ionic copper" (Cupramine, Brightwells) sensitive more so than "chelated" copper. Naso are one of the "ionic copper" sensitive that seems to vary a bit from fish to fish. With such a dramatic reaction its pretty clear your is one of the very sensitive, especially to ionic copper. Not much you can do. Here's a thread of last ditch methods of attempting to save a fish. Best of luck with your beautiful fish.

You mentioned Larry’s frozen food. Naso tangs don’t really touch meaty foods. Mine won’t go near the Reef Frenzy I feed my other fish. She only eats the algae sheets I fold up for her and put on a veggie clip.
Are you feeding yours nori sheets?

before i treated anything he would eat larrys, pellets and flakes. He never seemed interested in nori at all for some reason. Since then i bought 2 different brands/colors of seaweed as well and he wont touch any of it.

But update... I keeps seeming like hes going to die one day then a few hours later is swimming around. He has something wrong with the gills. I lowered the salinity and the temperature... the next day his breathing looked normal... then the next day back to being heavy again.

So I decided to give it a fresh water dip. I used fresh RODI water, brought it up to temp and dipped him for 5 minutes then put him back. During the dip he seemed ok he didnt just lay flat and play dead. There was possibly some things floating in there but to be honest i did it in a 5 gallon bucket and it was hard to tell if it was like dust... or something in there. When i put him back into his QT tank he basically started acting like he was going to die... just lay on side then swim for a few seconds and lay on his side again. So i was kinda thinking he was a gonner. I did a water change just to be safe and know its fresh clean salt water... about 50% water change. But after about 2-3 hours of that he was upright and swimming but STILL breathing fast. Now its the next day and he isnt moving too much just kinda stays around his one corner and doesnt like to spin around and show me his other gill. I had to get a net and force him to spin around so I could take a picture and it looks like his gill is damage. I cant get the greatest picture but here is best one i could get. It looks like torn flesh I guess... Will it heal? What else could i possibly do? Should I do another full week of Prazipro? I also just got paragard today but I dont want to treat it with both meds at the same time. He still will not eat. I also just bought freeze dried mysis and put selcon and garlic on it. He just wont go after anything like he did 2 weeks ago he was a good eater before i started trying the copper treatment. I feel like hes not eating because of whatever is going on with his Gill and I just dont know what to do anymore, feel like ive tried everything.

Very sorry... was a nice looking naso. I would suggest copper power over cupramine like was suggested above as it is chelated copper treatment. Best wishes on next one bro. Sorry again
