Naso Tang not doing so hot

My wife brought home a Naso Tang, she did not watch it eat at the store where she got it from. It has not eaten anything over the past week. Tried frozen mysis and nori and some pellet food, just swims around it. I found him this morning pretty much very lethargic behind a rock, I went to PetSmart and bought a 10gal aquarium kit and filled it up with 50% new water and 50% my tank water with a filter that has some bioballs in it from my tank, heater, and small LED light. He is just sitting in the corner of the tank at the bottom on his side. If you nudge him he will swim a bit and then just go back to the bottom.

Is ther anything i can do? Or is he pretty much a lost cause now.

How is the breathing of the tang?

It is shallow, he just lays in 1 spot in the corner right now, but if i touch him with a net he moves around for an out 20 seconds and back to the corner or nearest corner

Moves to consider: turn out the light on the tank, only ambient room light like from a window is ok. No telling what condition the fish was in at the LFS and if they had just received the fish. A powerhead in the tank aimed up at the surface will increase the available O2 in the water. A bath in methylene blue can help the fish to transpire O2 across its gills. Live blackworms if it begins to respond are almost irresistable.

He is very thin, at a minimum he probably has internal parasites. Does he have any spots on him or other signs of illness?

Its gills may be loaded with flukes. A freshwater dip will cause many of them to fall off. But in the condition it's in, it may not be up to a FW dip.

Wish I could help. My only contribution I could think of is get an air stone or circulation pump in there if you don’t have one. Get the o2 level high for him.

Any signs of spots or discoloration you noticd

He was very active when he was brought home, swam around great, but never ate, the only spots I only see on him are the stress spots they get, he had them initially when he went into the tank, and disappeared withihin minutes, and when i found him this morning, those spots have returned .

That fish is ailed by something, and I don’t know that you can save it at this point. Juvenile naso are often difficult fish. They’re quite prone to disease. This one I think is dying of starvation, something not uncommon in juveniles. Sorry

About the only thing you can do is try to feed live brine, live blackworms, and nori. Many naso can’t turn nori it live foods down.

If it were me I would attempt a Hail Mary FW dip, from the looks of him he probably won’t make it through the night.

I have nori in there now, but doesn’t even go towards it. I don’t have access to live brine shrimp right now all i have is frozen brine/spirulina and frozen mysis. And some pellet.

I am preparing for that now, kind of a last hope. I know he will die most likely through out the night by the looks of things. I just feel so bad for it

Thank you everyone for the help and suggestions, but as i thought and others as well, the tang did not make it.
