I have a Naso for about 10 days now, I have tried seaweed, spectrum pellets, spirolina flakes and Formula 2 Frozen Tang Food, he is not interested. Forget the garlic soaked food I tried that too. Any other sugestions??
Thanks

Did you properly acclimate him? What size tank is he in? Have you checked your levels? I apologize for all the questions lol.

He was properly acclimated (drip method), 110 gal tank, all levels are spot on. Yellow tangs are eating like crazy. Tried the Seaweed with piece of rock and rubberband and wouldn't touch it. I will try to get black worms. Thx

On the Seaweed/Nori what color ? In my experience they HIGHLY PREFER Red or Brown over Green. Best of luck.

Cheers, Todd

Have you tried frozen brine shrimp? Of everything you listed I have never had a tang touch any of that. The frozen brine shrimp isn't the healthiest choice but it's a good way to get him started eating. Also you might try reef frenzy if you can find it locally. It's a mix of frozen seafoods. My fish tear it up.

Well I'm not sure if it is your issue or not, but a naso in a 110g that already has other tangs(how many??) is not going to fair well even if he does start to eat.
Tangs need swim room, it helps w/ their digestive system as well as keeps them from being stressed.
Sorry, but gotta be honest here.

I agree with davocean…
That fish should not be housed in an aquarium smaller than 180 gallons and that's on the small end…
I have had excellent luck with New Era Marine Grazers and Algae Pellets, combined with EcoSystem Aquarium Reef Solution or Fish Solution(Depending on the system)…
Also you may want to
verify that there are not any parasites on the fish, Naso tangs are prone to flukes and will refuse to eat with these pests…
Good luck

I agree on the tank, he was given to me, just waiting for my new tank to be finished 225 and he will be going in there. But he did eat up the red sea weed like crazy tonight. Thanks Todd!

Well that is good news to hear both ends, eating and the tank upgrade.
Naso's are different than most all other tangs, they are not nearly as aggressive, and can shy up at first, especially if the others are intimidating him as YT's tend to do.
Once they start eating that nori, you are golden IMO
Understandable sometimes we have to make do when it comes to rehomes/rescues.
I get a frozen mix food called five in one, and it has plankton, brine, bloodworms, squid, and vegetable diet, and it's processed in filtered water.
I add mysis to that mix as well.
NLS pellets are also great

I've had a few over naso tangs over the years

I found putting frozen food, like brine or blood worm in the current it sometimes excites them in thinking its alive, but it needs to feel superior or the dominant fish in the tank as they are very shy and stress easy so I found buying one bigger than all the other fish worked for me or a quarantine tank by himself to get him eating, anyway there's some of my experiences

I have a naso tang surgeon for almost 2 months ago. First I fed and Marine Munchies and then ate pellets and nori. I hope you serve and eat as soon as possible.

Since someone brought up Reef Frenzy® I'll take a moment to add some info for those who may not be familiar with our products. Reef Frenzy® as well as Herbivore Frenzy® food have a great reputation for getting finicky fish to eat faster than some alternatives. We process fresh caught scallop, shrimp (peeled), ocean perch, oysters, clams, squid, and supplement it with enriched mysis, krill, green/purple seaweed. Our blends offer the freshest, cleanest and most complete diet available in one single 8 oz package. It is becoming very popular as a preferred food for aquarium maintenance companies and was recently named by Karen Brittain as the "first choice" food to wean tank bred P. venusta angels onto a non live food. I don't know of more finicky fish than that! You can learn more on our website Media Gallery and Testimonial pages to see for yourself why folks rave about LRS.

We are named at the bottom of this blog post: Rising Tide Conservation Updates: Larval Rearing of the Purple Mask Angelfish

We have several stocking dealers in NY and you can find the nearest one by entering your zip code on our interactive map: Reef Frenzy, Best Reef Food - Larry's Reef Services, Llc - Advance, Nc : Other

(For our friends on the west coast, Sea Dwelling Creatures is bringing our line out there so the LFS have a local source very soon.)

Here is a feeding demo with about 20 species of fish aggressively eating our food, including Red Sea Regal Angels and even seahorses. Good luck with getting your Nano on track to being eating well!
