Not sure if it is just me and is relegated to the stores near me, but has anyone seen a healthy blonde naso tang come in without a pinched belly? It seems that all the blonde naso tangs I have purchased in the past few years have had this issue and will slowly wither away. It seems to be a collection issue? I have also seen this happen from Hawaiian Naso tangs as well. Any thoughts on this?

I just added a small 2.5'' blonde naso from hawaii to my tank a few weeks ago. Also came in with pinched belly but it now looks like a fat little football from eating all the brown lobophora algae. Unfortunately he has not touched the red or green nori sheets so the outcome is not looking good once he polishes off that lobophora. Appreciate if anyone can share their experience teaching a small naso how to eat seaweed sheets. I have a clip that I attach the lobophora to and he eats that from the clip no problem. I try putting the seaweed on the clip and he does not eat.

Neither of my naso tangs eat much nori; they do eat meaty stuff however …..

I soaked my nori in garlic extreme, zoecon and selcon. Make sure you already have it on the clip when you start the soak.

What meat does it eat? And did you train him onto it or the fish already came eating like that?

mysid, brine, ocean plankton .... pretty much ate it from the start.

Yeah but they do need plenty of algae or nori in their diet or they will suffer long term!

Garlic extract and vitamins- yes.
Feed at minimum:
Plankton
Mysis shrimp
Formula 2 frozen and flake
LRS herbivore diet
Spirulina brine shrimp
Nori seaweed basted with garlic

I got my black naso last year, very pinched, they wanted to keep it and fatten it up but I knew I could feed it properly as there is always macro available in my tanks, it now eats anything I put in.

I don’t actually find that to be true as long as they are getting a balanced diet.

So apparently I ‘lied’ to you LOL. It had been a while since I actually watched my fish eat from the clip and both Naso tangs have finally worked out that nori = food. Chevron too.

Wow. What a feeding frenzy. Thanks for posting. Some awesome fish in there. How big is your tank? That Naso in giant. I would have to give mine away if a got half that size.

My 8 inch “Blondie’ eats everything. Really tears into nori.
