hey all, I’ve always has the white/offwhite nassarius snails but my lfs sold me a dark/grey one with a grey feeler/periscope.
Ive read that some are not considered reef safe. What’s the scoop?

Are you talking about Super Tongan nassarius snails. If so then yes they are. They are meat eaters and great at it

This one?

Those are the ones I’ve always had, new tank and the guy gave me this. I’ve read here and there that whelks can be mistaken for nassarius.

I’m not sure it’s dark enough to be a whelk but it could be. They do eat clams.

Also whelks don’t burrow in the sand, does yours?

Oh, yea that’s the first thing he did. I’m skeptical because I never had a nass NOT come out when I fed the tank

I have some that only come out when they feel like it. Guess it depends on if they are hungry.

It still could be a whelk, just hard to tell. Do you have any clams

I’m almost positive he’s a whelk after looking through some ID videos. HIs truck and body look tattooed and he’s longer. The only oddity is that he does burrow in the sand. And no, nothing else living at the moment.
