I have a 6g nano and I’m looking to diversify my cleanup crew. I’m in the ugly stage which means I’m “cycled” but have a lot time to go before the tank is balanced. I’ve kept several aquariums growing up.

Current inhabitants are a single small snail and a small female blue damsel. I’m planning to upgrade in the next 1.5 years so she’ll be moved to the bigger tank once she outgrows the current one.

I’d like to add a nassarius snail to help clean up detritus and uneaten missis shrimp that they damsel misses.

Will the nassarius snail go for the missis? Also what exactly does “detritus” mean? Will it eat the poops that the damsel leaves all over the sand bed?

Any other comments about the nassarius diet will be very helpful. Google spoke too generally for me to feel confident about adding one.

Also: if you’d recommend any other inverts for a small nano feel free to drop that.

They will pretty much eat anything they can get ahold of and detritus is a fancy word for fish poop.when I first added them to my tank it's pretty cool watching them emerge from the sand during feeding time and you could probably add a couple hermit crabs

Thank you! Just making sure I had enough for them to eat so I think I do. Thank you!

Thanks for the thread Robert - I’ve just started cycling my new 140g tank and are at about the same stage you are. I’m also considering when to start adding inverts, so this is interesting feedback to hear.

They are one of my favorite addions to any tank, not only do they get fairly large they also seem to reproduce in the tank. i am always seeing little tiny ones pop and there were only larger snails to sttart. same with trocchias snails they see to hard working and hardy as heck.

Algae and detritus.

If you're worried about them starving, throw an algae wafer in there once in a while. Mine go crazy over them.
