I have had this guy for awhile and tonight is the first time I have seen him since I put him in my tank. My question is why do he crawl to the top of the tank and then let go and fall. He has done this three times since we spotted him tonight. Doesn’t seem to hurt him and it’s entertaining for sure. Just want to know if this behavior is normal.
Thanks

They stay under the sand until feeding time for me. Crawling up the glass is normal, but I have never seen one dive from the top...

Never seen a nassarius with markings like that. Google Babylonia Whelk. I think that's what it is. If so it may be predatory. They go after clams and other snails.

Do whelks bury under the sand with a tube sticking out??? I never purchased a whelk but I know that doesn’t mean much. Lol

From my brief google many are sold by lfs's as fancy nassarius.

Well so far he hasn’t bothered my turbo snails. Of course they are good sized and I fed enough to make sure there is food that sinks to the sand bed for my hermits and shrimp. He is a beautiful snail so I will keep him no matter what. Between him, my many bristle worms, and my brittle star my sand bed is really clean. Like I said this is the first time I have seen him since I purchased him about 8 months ago. Thanks for the info.

That one is a Babylonia, but in general, sand-dwelling snails don't have a very good grip on slick surfaces like glass. He's smelling food in the water, and crawling toward what he thinks is the source, when . . . Oops!

Oh ok. Seemed like he was doing it on purpose. He would get to the top and lean back his head and down he’d go. He did go up and taste the algae sheet I had attached to the top but wasn’t very interested. Lol. It’s there for my turbos. They are always hungry.

Well spotted a really small snail and have no idea where it came from. Looks like a baby nassarius to me but what do I know. At this point I feel like I’m clueless about everything. Lol.

When I posted pics a while back I was told it was a Babylonia Whelk. His foot is longer than his shell, it’s a single foot unlike the turbos that have a kinda split down the middle. I had a really good video but for some reason I can’t upload videos. Ugh
