Nassirus Snails

So i turn to check on my tank and realize my peppermint shrimp is missing. What do i find my two nassirus snails eating my peppermint shrimp. Why on earth would this happen?

It died before they ate it? Nassarius are carion eaters, generally not live animal eaters. My guess is it was dying or dead when they began eating it. They are great as clean up crew. Never will find a dead body if you give them enough time.

Actually he was alive and they only latched on to his hind part and did not continue to eat him, they kind of just paralyzed him so he couldnt swim and then went back in the sand he is slowly dying now. Prior to find them the peppermint shrimp was fine all day.

Are you sure they are nassarius snails and not some of the other imposter welks that are sold under that name?

he must have had some sort of necrosis or something for them to react. Unless of course they are not true nassarius as Naiad said. Weird. Never had any experience with my nassarius bothering anything not dead or dying.

I agree nassarius only eat carrion. Ill bet the scarlet cleaner shrimp was already hurting. Sry:-(
