Looks nasty, no new additions, tanks been pretty solid although I did just put some carbon online day b4 yesterday, (now offline!!!) …..
any clues (pardon the pics, best I can do, camera shy fish) ….appreciate any input, thanks

It looks like a bite injury - did this just occur overnight? I would watch carefully for any infection symptoms. Also - it could be a suction injury - like a powerhead or pump - White light is always helpful - and a closer picture. Assuming your parameters are great (and your tank looks great)

Based on circular pattern appears to be a bite mark while can be bacterial. Pic lighting a little dark - Please repost under white lighting.
What other tankmates are in the tank with this fish?

Appreciate the fast reply….yeah I does look like some type of physical trauma where the scales are missing, but there is also that other “ring” sorta off-center that bothers me…
Sorry bought the pic and lighting, not much adjustment with these Kessil cans, I just turned up the white to 100%, not much help (Dang it notices the phone and hides)
Tank is a 300 G2 (65g/80g total)
-2 firefish, - dottyback, - Flame angel, -2 Lemon Damsels, - Percula Clown, - Caribbean Blenny (sp. unknown)
Corals: all LPS, clams, gorgonians, et nothing particularly stingy or obnoxious..

Bacteria often grows in a circular fashion (like cultures do in a petri dish). I think this is an injury, with a secondary bacterial infection. It may heal on its own, but if it grows in size or thickness, I would consider moving the fish into a treatment tank and dosing with a broad spectrum, gram negative antibiotic.

Jay confirmed. The medication you want is seachem kanaplex or Maracyn 2

I’ve sorta out of it in the disease game, last check only gram negative stuff I was aware of was Maracyn/Maracyn 2 …. haven’t seen that stuff for years…
Just in case: here is whats left in my med chest (besides coppersafe and safe-t-stop).

see anything useful ? If not got suggestions and sources? Again BIG thanks for even bothering !!!

My first choice would be the SulfaPlex. Second choice would be NeoPlex. Both used in a separate hospital tank. Maracyn 2 (MINOCYCLINE) are available online as well as at many LFSs. Just saw you have Kanaplex. Didn't see it in the photo. That would be my first choice.

But as advised, maybe wait and see if it heals on its own before treating with an antibiotic.

The following is not in place of the recommended treatment.

In addition to the recommended treatment, help the fish by improving its immunity and ability to heal wounds by adding supplements for an ill fish to its diet as recommended in the Fish Health Trough Proper Nutrition post. Use especially Beta-1,3/1,6-D-Glucan found in health-food stores and pharmacies. Instructions for its use are found in that link.

Hope the fish improves on its own. :)

Related to the above, sorta a weird thing but fish do watch other fish… the tang is the only tang in the tank and hasn’t learned to feed on nori sheets, whereas in the tank right next to it, if I put in a sheet its a feeding frenzy …. Basically saying its not getting the best “tang” type diet it could…currently using Hikari Mega Marine angel and Formula Two …unfortunately

appleacite your rationale for the above - or it should be ignored - edit what I mean here is - IMHO the best would be ignore it - and treat if worsening

Neoplex would be your best bet I think.
Jay

just so happens I do have Neoplex on hand,
also maybe do nothing is the best course as already that secondary “ring” is gone and the missing scales look to be “healing”….
I’m gonna go with physical trauma as the likely cause and give a holler if it turns for the worse… (fish is VERY camera shy….ODD they even see the phone or can tell the difference haha)
TRULY appreciate all the help…. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Can't disagree with this approach - I don't know if @vetteguy53081 mentioned his suggestion to plant your phone in front of the tank, leave the room - and record a video - you may be able to see aggression that is not apparent when you're in the room.

Curious Jay - why neoplex vs kanaplex? I would think that both being aminoglycosides, that the spectrum would be similar?

Kanamycin has a record in Noga for being nephrotoxic and causing liver damage in trout. Neomycin has been implicated in harming biofilters, but I've not seen that myself (and I always monitor ammonia any time I dose with an antibiotic or chloroquine).

That’s an idea, I am always amazed at the fact fish see and notice thing outside the tank and can run up and beg when they see me, but run away when they see me holding a phone…

Did they discontinue Maracyn and/or is Mardel totally defunct? Also related; @Jay Hemdal you have access to pharmacy/vet grade stuff or is there such a thing?

Fritz owns Maracyn

As far as I know, Maracyn is still being sold by Fritz (Mardel is defunct). I use Fishman chemical for bulk drugs:
