my tank recieves a decent amount of sun light through out the day through a window near the tank but iv heard mixed things about this as some say it can magnify and burn things?

no. its fine. probably better actually. The Chinese havent made a fixture yet to match it. Do make sure its not too intense and direct, just keep an eye on the corals. its just like adding a new fixture, low light to super high light.
 
it really only comes in through cracks on one side. No corals yet still in cycle mode.

Just kinda hits the back sides of the rock through the morning hours.
 
I know some coral wholesale places have greenhouses, but they bring down the intensity of the sun with screens and what not.

You have blinds there so you can control it...also your not depending on it since you have good lighting...watch for algae, but to me, all looks good...:)
 
yea thats just to maintain control. once the cycle is done and the algae phases are done I wouldnt worry about it a bit. Id even encourage it. best light on the planet.
remember light doesnt make algae grow in the tank. nutrients do. light just helps.
