naturally splitting a rainbow bubble tip?

I've read about people increasing water temps slightly to induce splitting but I'm not anemone guy and I can't recommend it.

Feed it more frequently, other than that you'll just cause prolonged stress besides a quick cut. If your worried about cutting, don't be, they are almost a sure win, as long as it's healthy and well fed to begin with (don't feed week befor cutting though) and you make it a clean removal from rock and clean cut. Some also do a iodine dip before placing back in tank.

I introduced a porcelain crab to mine and i guess the crab irritated to the point that it splitted... it's the 2nd time it splitted. The first time was when our AC went out last summer and the tank reached 95 degrees in the tank, the 'nem didn't die but as soon as I did a major w/c a couple days later it splitted.

I split mine using a gentle power head, point the powerhead at the nem, soon it will split. I've split mine 3 times now doing this.

just cut it. making it split by stressing it can kill it just as well as cutting it, I think.

I have mine right next to an mp40...it hasn't split yet:( anything else you've done? It's been there for about 6 months.

I have to agree that stressing it into splitting is much worse than just simply cutting it with an extremely sharp razor blade.

BTA seems to split when it is stressed, almost like a survival instinct to preserve itself. Keep making it uncomfortable with a powerhead or similar and it will want to split. Make sure you feed it weekly with meaty foods to buildup it's strength first.

I would just be very careful with cutting. Make sure the knife you are using is sharp and maintain a steady hand. Good luck!

Most of the stories I've heard on cutting BTAs are without issue. It's the extremely rare BTAs that I would be too scare to risk... I've heard horror stories.

Yeah. You want to cut both the mouth and the foot in half so both frags have one of each. I know a local reefer who quarters his nems without issue though. I can't imagine he always gets a mouth on every frag when quartering, but he doesn't have any problem with survival rates. RBTAs are very hardy, particularly if they've been in captivity a while.

I just recently cut mine and it was easy just make sure to put the mouth in the middle of the cut here are some before and after pics :D
