Neat and Tidy Aquariums

I hope this question isn't too stupid.

When I see aquariums that I think are beautiful, like this one, here, I don't see any junk or coralline algae on the glass. But when I look at real aquariums in people's home, I've never seen one with clean glass and clean equipment/powerheads. Does anyone really have aquariums that look like that? With no junk on the glass or equipment?

You can certainly scrape every bit of corraline if you choose to. I scrape 3 sides and leave the back as is. Between that and my UV, tank is very clear, sand is white.

Basically scraping the back glass routinely to keep the coralline off.

I keep mine totally clean....I scrape all 4 sides of the glass weekly and clean equipment as needed. I like the sterile look lol. It is all about maintenance.

Totally agree, I clean my components monthly, and the glass every three days. I love the sterile look of a tank.

All it is is proper staging. Everything is cleaned up and all equipment you don't want visible is temporarily removed. Anything left can be cleaned up with post processing of the photo.

I do. I simply clean glass regularly (every 3-4 days) and I tend to dose lower on calcium and Kalk

Nice tank that one.
Some people spend lots of time on maintenance & some people don't.
Keeping coralline off the glass is easy with a razor blade.

Depends on people's nature, some people come home and spend 10-30 minutes on their tank every single day.
I work long hours and I'm not that diligent, so my tank might look "pretty good" most days, and if I'm knowing I want to photo anything soon I'll give a good effort on it days before.
That pic you posted is one of my favorite shots, and it's a softie tank, so maybe that made less coral care and more time to just clean and maintain.

I like mine au naturel... I clean three sides making no effort to remove the ring of coralline algae at the water’s surface or from pumps (cleaned once in three years)... I leave sand maintenance to J.J. and Pete (goby/pistol shrimp) and three Nassarius snails...

I wish my tank looked like that! I maintain a deep sand bed and it rarely looks pristine. Besides, if I clean it up, so to speak, my clowns just scatter it again and then the pistol shrimp pushes it around. As for coralline, I like the look of it but not everywhere. I have a cube that sits in a corner so two sides are clean and two sides are purple. In my Biocube, all that’s there right now is diatoms. :mad:

Keep my front panel clean,but the rest is covered with coralline algae,a natural reef has things growing all over thats the way I like it natural not clinical.

I think that beautiful tank was a competition tank and may have been a relatively quick setup just for a photo shoot, not enough time for coralline.

By nature I'm not neat and tidy, my home, my van and my reef all reflect that, but I will spiffy up the glass before taking pictures and part of regular maintenance.

I had a deeper sand bed, initially, complete with critters... when I added Pistol Pete, I removed enough to keep him from burying things...
