I have had this anemone for about 7-8 months and he's always sat on this one rock no matter where I placed the rock. Recently he decided to venture out.. after knocking over corals.. hanging on the back glass... on my returns.. he finally landed in a spot to do his thing... SPLIT!! And I caught it on video!!
First video is long and is the process of splitting
Actual splitting

So how do they reproduce then? I thought that was why they split? Reproduction?

This is how it was explained to me "Why would a nem split in a tank? To compete with the new nem for food, light, flow etc..? Or does it make more sense for a nem to split because its stressed out and wants to produce another nem just in case it dies?"

Actually bubble tips split for low of different reasons. If they get fed often/ lighting is really good, large water change, stress, could be lots of different things

Just look at what I quoted above. Why would a nem split and compete with its other half for food, lighting, flow etc. Out of the two nems that I have had split in the past, once was when I was away on vacation and my automatic water changes stopped occurring on day one of a 14 day cruise, and the other was over summer when my AC broke and my tank rose to 86-90 degrees.

I want disagreeing I was just saying other things can cause it, I've seen one split in perfect parameters and light. The only thing they did was start feeding it on a schedule

I wasn't necessarily saying you're wrong, but I feel as though the majority of the time they split in stress.

I can see that, guess I just don't think of it that way because I've never personally had one stress split
Luckily after they split they didnt die, but I also just wasnt as into them so I sold them to a few buddies of mine, and even after a year, they havent split in their tanks, but are massive.

That might be a factor also, all the healthy splits I've seen are massive anemones That have been in their tank for a few years
