Hi all,
My name is Kyle and I'm as new as it gets to saltwater tanks and reefs. I grew up with a small fresh water tanks but I haven''t had anything for years. Thanks to having watched just about every episode of Tanked on Animal Planet. My interest and wants have gotten me to the point of wanting/needing a reef/fish tank. With an engineering background, research and planning is built-in into my DNA at this point. This week I have been reading everything I can find and watching more Youtube videos than I would like to admit. Here is where I am at, which is far.
Based on the location of where I want to put the tank. I have 36" long x 19" width area to play with. Looking at tank sizes and dimensions, I believe I'm in the market for 50-65 gallon tank. I know I want to run a sump/refuguim. So right now I am looking for tank (reef is preferred) and stand. Then I'll be looking for sump (I like the Trigger 30s). I have also read that I should know what protein skimmer I want before purchasing the sump.
My plan is to buy them and then a pump. I haven't done enough research to be comfortable buying anything else yet. Plus buying the tank and sump will put a pretty big den into the budget. I really don't wont skimp on any areas when building this setup for the first as this will be my only tank. With that said I do not have a have big budget for this. I will being buying parts over time and whenever I get to the point that I can put it all together I will. I'm playing the long game, haha.
At the point I'm looking for input and your knowledge to help me get up to speed quicker. And to see if anyone local is selling a tank and/or sump.
I am open all information at this point. If you have made it to this point, sorry it was such a long intro post and I thank you for making it to the end, lol.
