Hey all,

My tank is 2 floors up from the sump and for the past 7 years (seriously- 7 years..) have used a Coralife Turbosea 1100 to handle the high head pressure. Has worked great but I def want a backup handy for when the inevitable failure happens.

Slim pickings online for this pump and cheapest I found was in 300's. I saw on BRS a comparable pump that can handle 28' head pressure (which is what I need)-- it's the Pan World 150, much cheaper.

I don't know this brand at all, and saw some reviews about the sound. My Coralife isn't silent but it's pretty quiet. Anyone have any experience with this brand/know this pump?

Thanks

brad

I have owned a few Pan World pumps but nothing larger than the 100PX. I've had no problems with them in general...but I would not call the 100PX quiet (the 50PX-X was quieter but still not silent). There is an audible whirring / fan noise when it's running. It's a very good pump...very strong...but I'd be cautious about using it in a sound sensitive application. JMO...

that's helpful- thank you!

You have the right idea obviously in pairing primary to backup for quick swap, replacement, emergency, etc. Having said that I've got nothing since I've not used either. I've always run Iwaki (Japanese) on return and skimmer when running AC pumps. I've since switched over to DC and using a pair of Neptune Cor 15's. One for skimmer, one for return with the idea that if the return has trouble I can just take the skimmer off line and replace within a minute or two until I can fix, repair, or replace.

You may have already thought about it and it may end up costing more but if you don't find one then maybe consider buying the replacement has a set. Good run with that pump though and sounds like a good one. best of luck though on whatever you do find has a backup.
